Bringing history back to life 🔧✨
This 110-year-old stained glass Leadlight panel at Branxton Uniting Church recently underwent a full restoration. We were engaged to carefully remove the panel, dismantle it entirely, and restore every component from the ground up.
Each piece was cleaned, repaired, and reassembled with precision, preserving the original design while strengthening the window for the future.
A rewarding project and a great example of the craftsmanship behind these historic pieces.

The Birchgrove Dome Project: A True Test of Skill and Perseverance

I'll never forget this job. It was a private residence in Birchgrove, where we were tasked with removing the original dome due to its poor design and structural failure. The steel structure was leaking, and a Leadlight panel had fallen out, smashing on the ground below.

With the old dome removed, we had a fresh canvas to work with. Designing and manufacturing a new 316 stainless steel dome was just the beginning. We also had to create a new Leadlight design from scratch.

The amount of time and thought that went into this project was staggering. Adam and I spent countless hours designing the new dome, and Tom and I worked tirelessly to get the Leadlight design just right. We created three prototypes before we were satisfied with the result.

This project pushed us to our limits, but the end result was well worth it. We're thrilled with the final product, and we couldn't have done it without the trust and support of our clients, George and Connie.

A huge thank you to Tom, Adam, Mitchell, Amir, and Nick for their hard work and dedication, such a privilege to work with such talented people.And to my rock, my darling wife Simone, thank you for being my constant source of support and inspiration throughout this project and for the past 20+ incredible years. Your love, encouragement, and patience mean the world to me.🙏

Finished up today at St David’s Church Haberfield.
A full restoration of the original stained glass window which was badly damaged. We also restored all of the original steel frame vented windows in the lower section, followed by an overlay for protection on the outside with 6.38 clear laminated glass.

We had a few hurdles to deal with on this job, but we finally got there in the end.

Feeling pretty privileged to be featured on The ABC’S Restoration Australia series a few weeks ago. Episode 4, Manly bower, for the restoration and reproduction of the existing Leadlight panels. It was short and sweet LOL, a great experience for all of us here at Lawrence Leadlights.

The Leadlight panels really made the front entrance come alive and really complimented the build.

We just completed this Leadlight skylight in a residential premises in Vaucluse. Walking into the main foyer of this premises definitely has the wow factor.

Finally installed these beautiful Leadlight panels at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Carnes Hill.

We removed these Leadlights from their position as their structural integrity had deteriorated over the last 20 years and were ready to fall out.

We completely pulled apart each panel then cleaned them piece by piece, reassembled with new Lead and also adding additional internal and external reinforcing for longevity.

It took a while to get use to swaying being so high up but we got there in the end!

I just wanted to say a BIG thank you to all involved as none of this can be achieved without all your hard work. Tom, Mitchell, Nicholas, Amir, Ba An, Ronny, Rodney and Simone.

It’s a nice feeling from all of us here to look back at such an incredible piece of work with the knowledge that it will be a part of architectural history for the many years to come and for all to enjoy.

It was a fun day at work yesterday! We were being filmed in our work place as part of the ABC series, Restoration Australia.

Simon was documenting in detail the restoration process of a main entrance Leadlight door in conjunction with new Leadlight work for the surroundings to complement the original Leadlight panels. These Leadlights are in a well known residential house in Manly with plenty of interesting history…
