It’s been a busy few weeks behind the scenes at LSCA — and that’s exactly how we like it. 💙

Not a bad place to call the office today. ☀️🌴

Spent the morning in beautiful Airlie Beach conducting progress meetings, reviewing what’s been achieved and working through the next priorities with a client.

Some days are documents, audits and deadlines… and some days work comes with this view and a coffee stop. 😂☕️

DON’T BE FOOLED BY THE “GET ISO CERTIFIED FAST” ADS. 👀

I keep seeing ads promising things like:

“ISO certification in as little as 21 days.”
“No failures. No delays.”

Can ISO certification happen quickly?

Absolutely — particularly if a business already has good systems and evidence in place.

But here’s what businesses need to understand:

👉 A consultant cannot guarantee that an independent certification auditor will certify you.

👉 And ISO shouldn't just mean someone sends you a heap of generic templates, changes the company name and gets you across the audit line.

If you're investing your money in certification, you should end up with a system that actually works in your business.

✔️ Something your people can use.
✔️ Something that manages your risks.
✔️ Something that helps with tenders and contractor requirements.
✔️ And something that is still useful after the auditor leaves.

So before paying someone promising unbelievably fast certification, ask exactly what you're getting. 🤔

Don't just buy a certificate. Build the business behind it.

Do you actually know, let's be honest with yourself for a minute?

Not what you’ve been told.
Not what you assume.
Not what the procedure says should be happening.

If I asked your people the same questions I asked you… would the answers match?

Would they know what they’re responsible for?
Would they know where the system is?
Would they know what happens when something goes wrong?
Could they show you the evidence?

Here’s the uncomfortable bit:

You might think everything is under control simply because nobody has told you otherwise.

That doesn’t mean it is.

So don’t ask me.

Ask your people.

Walk into the business. Pick something. Follow it from start to finish. Ask the questions you normally assume someone else has already asked.

Because sometimes the truth hurts.

But finding out now hurts a hell of a lot less than finding out when something goes seriously wrong.

Be honest with yourself.

Do you actually know?

A little feature about me and Luxton Safety & Compliance Australia as part of the Whitsundays Chamber “Meet a Member” series.

LSCA has grown from wanting to do compliance differently — less unnecessary paperwork and generic systems, and more practical support that actually works in the real world.

I’m heading to the 2026 Whitsunday Business Conference at Club Whitsunday for an afternoon of networking, meeting local businesses and organisations, and hopefully having some really good conversations about what’s happening across our region.

New brochures and business cards have arrived, and I’m really happy with how they reflect what LSCA is all about — practical WHS, HSEQ and ISO support that works in the real world.

Do you really need to start again?

One thing I hear is:

“I think we need a whole new system.”

But honestly, that is rarely the case. Often, a business already has good foundations.

The problem is that documents have become outdated, responsibilities aren’t clear, or the system no longer reflects how the business actually operates.

A gap assessment helps identify what is working, what is missing and what genuinely needs attention—before you spend time and money rebuilding everything.

Sometimes the answer isn’t more paperwork.
It’s simply getting the right pieces working together.
