Violet Town Football Netball Club Inc V Lancaster Football Netball Club
Violet Town will be out to continue its competitive form when it welcomes last year’s premier.
The Towners’ got their first win in round 7 when it finished over the top of Girgarre and last weekend, they were competitive against ladder leader Shepparton East.
Coach Wally Armstrong will be looking to bottle what they did in the third quarter where they out-scored the Eagles – 5 goals to 2.
But he knows that won’t be easy against the Wombats who seem to feast on the lower ranked teams of the competition.
Zac Cerrone had an unbelievable individual game helping himself to 10 goals in the win over Girgarre.
Former Tatura and Numurkah utility Morrie Serra played one of his best games for the club while Charlie McLay, Lachlan Boscarini, Luke Davies and Luke Donnell were very consistent for the Wombats.
Jake Mills and Cam Simpson both missed last week’s big win over Girgarre and it remains an unknown whether they will play or be rested again.
James Herring, Anthony Moleta, Conor Daley, Riley Dowell, Nathan Abley and Riley Kego will be the players the home team looks to for them to be in the game and be competitive.
Tip: Lancaster.
Shepparton East Football Netball Club V Stanhope Football Netball Club
This will be a huge test for both teams to see where they are at around 5pm.
The Eagles ae 8-0 and I think coach Rob Osborne would be the first to acknowledge that there is still room for improvement for his Eagles.
Stanhope, on the other hand, has really hit its straps in the past month-or-so.
Jake Rennie, Jonathan Pearson, Adam Lovison, Nathan O’Reilly, Jye Adamson, Alec Young and Rhys Smith have been some of the players that have led the charge for the Lions to see them at 6-2.
The losses though have come against teams above it on the ladder, so this is a big test for them.
Jordan Gattuso starred in his return to the team after missing six weeks with a finger injury.
Ruckman, Thomas McCluskey continues to stake his claims for the league’s best and fairest award.
Intercept defender Jamie Spencer is in good form, United premiership player Matt Rendina has been in very good form since his return from injury while Lachie Keady and Thomas Campbell are others in form.
Adem Barolli and Simon Russell will be hoping to be put their hand up for selection for the Eagles if cleared to play after missing multiple weeks due to injury.
Tip: Shepparton East.
Avenel Swan V Dookie United Football & Netball Club
This is a big game for both of these teams.
Dookie did enough to see off the challenge of Undera to skip four points clear in sixth spot on the ladder while Avenel lost more ground when it suffered a heart-breaking loss to Merrigum.
Ryan McKenna, Ethan Batey, Brendan McMullan, Joshua Kezerle, James Nugent and Jack Threlfall will be important for the Thunder.
If they can play well and curb the influence of Kyle Maynard, Andrew Dowling, Thomas Tobin, Nathan Gardiner, Joshua Carrafa and Ryan Mitchell Carrafa, then they can take a giant step towards shoring up its place inside the top six.
Tip: Dookie United.
Tallygaroopna Football Netball Club (Official) V Merrigum Football/Netball Club
This is one of those eight-point games, with winner staying in the top six race and the loser doing it tough.
After winning four of its first five games, Tallygaroopna has run into some of the leading premiership contenders and come up a little short.
The Dogs have been hit and miss in 2023 and have struggled to get their best team on the park regularly.
Brodie Easton, Jaydon Stiles (20 goals), Kellan Robinson, Matthew Wild, Zak Parkinson and Jarrod Pertzel will be important for them while Tim Karolidis, Kevin Maroney, Jesse Anderson-Clarke, Dylan Butcher, Kian Wise and Daniel Clarke will be out to continue their strong form to ensure the home team gets the win and keeps pace with sixth placed Dookie United.
Tip: Tallygaroopna.
Longwood Football Netball Club V Murchison-Toolamba Football Netball Club
Longwood faces a big challenge against last year’s runner-up.
The Redlegs’ are a vastly improved team in 2023 and have clocked up three wins.
But to add to that everything will have to go right against the Grasshoppers.
James Lloyd (21 goals in five games), Aaron Miller, Ashton Cashion, Andrew Lloyd, Aidan Lloyd and Isaac Johnston were very good in their team’s win over Tallygaroopna last round.
And, they will only get stronger.
They are introducing Charles McAdam – son of Gilbert to the playing roster.
He played most of his football with Southern Districts and he will provide an X-factor for the Grasshoppers.
Jye Formosa, Bailey McMurtrie, Jordan Formosa, Dillon Hardy, Joshua Formosa and Reece Dimech will be desperate to help their team be competitive for long periods of the contest.
Tip: Murchison-Toolamba.
Undera Football Netball Club V Nagambie Lakers Football Netball Club
Nagambie will get the chance to re-launch its premiership aspirations after a couple of weeks on the sidelines.
The double bye for them was maybe what the doctor ordered for this reasonably young group.
Blake Fothergill, Tom Madden, Trent Laverie, Mitchell Lusted, Nathan Fothergill, Tom Barnes, Will Dalton (30 goals) and Jon Moore (21 goals) will be important for the Lakers as they look to control the game tempo.
Corey Reardon, Caleb Cox, Nicholas Cunningham, Archer Carlile, Riley Moon, Tristan Castle and Danny Brewster (22 goals) will be important for the home team, but in the end the visitors will have too much firepower to not kick a winning score.
Tip: Nagambie.
