LIVERPOOL PLAINS DECLARED NATURAL DISASTER
The Honourable Kevin Anderson MP, Member for Tamworth and Minster for Lands and Water yesterday declared the Liverpool Plains a natural disaster area as a result of recent rains and subsequent flood damage in the region.
This means Council, homeowners, businesses and primary producers who were affected by September’s flooding can now apply for support.
“Local roads have been hammered this year and this means the Liverpool Plains Shire Council can access funding to repair essential public infrastructure. It also means those homeowners, businesses and primary producers who have suffered damage can receive support,” said Mr Anderson.
Liverpool Plains Shire Council Mayor Councillor Doug Hawkins OAM welcomed the support.
“It’s very good news for the local community and Council that we can now access this vital funding. It will go a long way to offsetting the huge cost associated with repairing the extensive damage the recent inundation has caused in our region,” said Mayor Hawkins.
Council will now prepare estimate costs for repairing damage to roads and infrastructure before providing a submission for funding.
