About Moss Wood
Moss Wood is a premium wine producer located in the Margaret River Wine region of Western Australia. The area is regarded as one of Australia's premium grape growing regions. Moss Wood was established as a specialist, high-quality winery. This was its raison d'etre and still provides the motivation for its continued existence. It is Clare and Keith's belief that all decisions made

in the vineyard or at the winery are based on the effect they will have on the quality of the wine. The wines produced at Moss Wood are Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Semillon and from Moss Wood's Ribbon Vale Vineyard, Semillon Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Merlot and Merlot. There is also a Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Malbec, produced from grapes sourced from Yallingup and Cowaramup and since 2008, a Moss Wood Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir, produced from grapes sourced from that famous Victorian region. Proprietors Keith and Clare Mugford enjoy the challenge of consistently producing high quality wines at Moss Wood. Please explore our website, which we hope, will provide you with interesting information about Moss Wood, our history, philosophy, vineyards, and winery, and to access our vintage charts and news. www.mosswood.com.au

Today we release the Moss Wood 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2023 vintage marks the 50th anniversary of our first vintage, made in 1973, and is the 51st commercial release of this wine, the 1978 vintage having been released as Moss Wood Dry Red.

It is important to note the wine has only ever come from one location, giving it consistent and unique characteristics, courtesy of our site. However, each vintage is also an expression of the season Mother Nature delivers, meaning no two Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignons are ever the same. She exhibits both generosity and temper, and learning to live and work with these is the great challenge of farming, embraced by the Mugford family since 1979.

The 2023 is a fitting addition to this history.

Members can access the wine in limited quantities via our website: www.mosswood.com.au

🌿 We’re Hiring – Horticulturalist 🌿

Moss Wood is seeking a skilled and motivated Horticulturalist to care for the gardens and landscapes across our Moss Wood and Ribbon Vale properties in Wilyabrup.

This hands-on role combines ornamental and productive horticulture — from manicured gardens to fruit trees, olives and native plantings — ensuring our surroundings reflect the same care and quality as the wines we produce.

You’ll also assist in vineyard operations during key times of the year, gaining valuable experience across the wider property.

If you enjoy working outdoors and take pride in maintaining beautiful, well-presented grounds, we’d love to hear from you.

Moss Wood 2024 Autrement Pinot Noir -
Another chapter in the Moss Wood Pinot story.

Pinot Noir has been part of Moss Wood since 1973, when the first vines were planted at our Wilyabrup vineyard — one of the oldest Pinot Noir sites in Western Australia and in the country.

That long-standing curiosity led us south in 2023, when the opportunity arose to work with fruit from a mature vineyard in Karridale.

The result is the 2024 Autrement Pinot Noir — a new expression from the southern end of Margaret River.

“Autrement” is the French word for “in another way” — a fitting name for this wine, which differs from our Pinot Noir grown Wilyabrup in both style and site.

Karridale’s later ripening and cooler conditions have delivered a wine with fine structure, bright acidity and savoury complexity — shaped further by a mix of three Pinot Noir clones and traditional winemaking.

Vintage 2025 Complete!
As of last Thursday, the final grapes were picked and safely in the winery — and we’re pleased to report that 2025 has been a very good year.

The season brought mild to warm conditions, reminiscent of 1996, 2005 and 2023, and all varieties ripened beautifully, delivering above-average quality.

📍 Pinot Noir kicked off harvest on 12th Feb with low yields but excellent fruit concentration — full of strawberry and cherry notes.
📍 Moss Wood Chardonnay followed with real depth and balance — one of our finest yet.
📍 Sauvignon Blanc gave us a smaller crop than usual, but with lovely tropical character and intensity.
📍 Ribbon Vale Chardonnay surprised us with both quality and quantity — a standout.
📍 Semillon delivered a solid, classic result as always.
📍 And finally, the Cabernets — while a little slower to ripen, are showing beautiful colour, ripe berry aromas and lovely balance. The quality across Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot is very exciting.
