Moss Wood Open Day - This Sunday 27th September 2026

We’re opening the w**ery doors again for our annual Moss Wood Open Day.

This year we’ll be celebrating the release of the 2025 Moss Wood Chardonnay and 2024 Moss Wood Pinot Noir, alongside a selection of our current releases and museum w**es from the cellar.

It’s an opportunity to visit us here in Wilyabrup, taste through the w**es and meet the Moss Wood w**emaking team.

9:30am – 4pm
$35 per person

No booking is required - simply drop in and join us on the day.

Today we release the Moss Wood 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2023 vintage marks the 50th anniversary of our first vintage, made in 1973, and is the 51st commercial release of this w**e, the 1978 vintage having been released as Moss Wood Dry Red.

It is important to note the w**e has only ever come from one location, giving it consistent and unique characteristics, courtesy of our site. However, each vintage is also an expression of the season Mother Nature delivers, meaning no two Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignons are ever the same. She exhibits both generosity and temper, and learning to live and work with these is the great challenge of farming, embraced by the Mugford family since 1979.

The 2023 is a fitting addition to this history.

We’re pleased to announce the launch of the Moss Wood Seasonal Release Service - a twice-yearly delivery of w**es curated and sent directly from the w**ery.

The first intake closes this Monday, 1 December, ensuring the inaugural shipment arrives well before Christmas. Sign-ups will then reopen ahead of the next release in March, with deliveries continuing each March and September.

The Seasonal Release Service is designed for those who enjoy staying closely connected to Moss Wood throughout the year.

🌿 We’re Hiring – Horticulturalist 🌿

Moss Wood is seeking a skilled and motivated Horticulturalist to care for the gardens and landscapes across our Moss Wood and Ribbon Vale properties in Wilyabrup.

This hands-on role combines ornamental and productive horticulture — from manicured gardens to fruit trees, olives and native plantings — ensuring our surroundings reflect the same care and quality as the w**es we produce.

You’ll also assist in vineyard operations during key times of the year, gaining valuable experience across the wider property.

Moss Wood 2024 Autrement Pinot Noir -
Another chapter in the Moss Wood Pinot story.

Pinot Noir has been part of Moss Wood since 1973, when the first vines were planted at our Wilyabrup vineyard — one of the oldest Pinot Noir sites in Western Australia and in the country.

That long-standing curiosity led us south in 2023, when the opportunity arose to work with fruit from a mature vineyard in Karridale.

The result is the 2024 Autrement Pinot Noir — a new expression from the southern end of Margaret River.

“Autrement” is the French word for “in another way” — a fitting name for this w**e, which differs from our Pinot Noir grown Wilyabrup in both style and site.

Karridale’s later ripening and cooler conditions have delivered a w**e with fine structure, bright acidity and savoury complexity — shaped further by a mix of three Pinot Noir clones and traditional w**emaking.

To mark the 50th anniversary release of Moss Wood Cabernet Sauvignon, we gathered for a retrospective tasting of some of the most significant vintages from the past five decades.

The lineup featured 1979, 1981, 1983, 1993, 1995, 1999, 2006, 2007, 2014, 2017, 2021 and 2022 - a cross-section of the journey so far.

The Moss Wood team was joined by Erin Larkin, John Jens, Jack Jens, Nina Throsby, Troy Denham and Lisa Chambers as we relived the stories behind these w**es - and the seasons that shaped them.
