Domaine Naturaliste After twenty years of applying his passion and expertise to countless vintages for local producers, winemaker Bruce Dukes has launched Domaine Naturaliste.

“The sheer quality of the wines he makes is equalled only by his consistency.” James Halliday

In 2014 renowned winemaker Bruce Dukes launched Domaine Naturaliste – his own range of wines, named for the southwest region where he has honed his craft. The Domaine Naturaliste label creates space for Dukes to refine his skill in balancing all the variables essential to producing great wine. Here, Dukes is demonstrating his mastery of the classic Margaret River varietals to fully express their individual and collective characteristics. He is applying decades of locally and internationally gained knowledge about terroir, fruit selection, palate and aroma to produce balanced, complex and utterly delicious wine. Bruce was awarded “Best WA Winemaker 2011″ by Wines of Western Australia.

As the sun sets on another glorious day in Margaret River, the vineyard takes on a different kind of beauty. Long shadows stretch between the rows, golden light settles across the vines, and the landscape slows into the quiet of evening.

These are the moments that remind us why place matters. Every row tells a story of the land, the seasons and the care that goes into every bottle.

Domaine Naturaliste. Rooted in Margaret River.

Ever wondered how the toast level of a French oak barrel influences the w**e in your glass?

During cooperage, the inside of each barrel is carefully toasted over an open fire. The intensity and duration of that toast help shape the flavours, aromas and texture the oak contributes to the w**e.

Light toast – Delicate spice, fresh wood and subtle vanilla, allowing the fruit and vineyard character to shine.

Medium toast – Layers of sweet spice, toasted nuts, vanilla and gentle caramel, adding complexity while maintaining balance.

Heavy toast – Deeper notes of coffee, cocoa, smoke and roasted aromas, bringing richness and intensity.

Of course, oak is never a flavour recipe on its own. Its impact depends on the w**e, the barrel's age and the time spent in oak.

At Domaine Naturaliste, every w**emaking decision is about finding the right balance between oak, fruit and the distinctive character of Margaret River.

Because great oak should complement the w**e, never overpower it.

Our new vintage workers Myah and Jedda are busy looking after the vines as the shoots begin to grow.

At this time of year, the growing shoots need a little extra support, so the guide wires are lowered to the appropriate level to help gently guide and protect the new growth.

Spring is well underway in the vineyard!

A note from our Vineyard Manager, Tim Byrne: the vines are waking up, with fresh shoots appearing and the vineyard taking on that unmistakable spring energy.

It’s an exciting time of year — there’s plenty of work ahead, but seeing new growth across the vineyard is always a great reminder of where every bottle begins.

We were thrilled to have our cellar door chosen to host a special Chardonnay Showcase Dinner & W**e Tasting with members of the judging panel from the 2026 International W**e & Spirit Competition (IWSC) and several other Margaret River w**e producers to highlight the very special 2019 and 2024 vintages.

An evening dedicated to great Chardonnay, thoughtful conversation and the people shaping the future of w**e — and a real privilege to welcome such an experienced group of judges to Domaine Naturaliste.

A memorable night in the Margaret River w**e country.

Another Gold for Morus 2023!
Our 2023 Morus Cabernet Sauvignon has picked up a second Gold medal, this time at the International W**e & Spirit Competition (IWSC).
Following its Gold at Decanter, it’s wonderful to see this w**e continuing to receive recognition on the international stage.

“A rich, ripe perfumed red peppers and floral notes lead into a complex, layered palate where bold black fruits and vibrant peppers meld seamlessly with well-integrated oak. The w**e’s sappy grip and intriguing depth carry through to a firm, enduring finish”. IWSC

A quiet winter morning among the Cabernet Sauvignon Roche Clone vines.

With the leaves fallen and the rows laid bare, the vineyard takes on a beautiful simplicity — a time of rest, renewal and preparation for the season ahead.

There’s something special about seeing these vines in winter, knowing the work happening beneath the surface will shape the vintage to come.

You’ll often find Bruce out in the vineyard at all times of the year—sometimes even with a favourite w**e in hand.

The 2022 Le Naturaliste Cabernet Franc has just been released at the cellar door, and it’s definitely a favourite of both Bruce and the team.

Expect subtle threads of violets, cherry blossom and fresh juniper berries, woven through an ample tapestry of black plum, cacao nib and ironstone.
