On behalf of Winchelsea CFA, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Pete and Tanja from the Barwon hotel for their ongoing support in collecting cans and glass bottles for the Winchelsea fire brigade. The funds being collected are designated for the purchase of a new tanker for the Winchelsea CFA brigade, which is scheduled to take place in a couple of years. If you are interested in supporting the Winchelsea brigade, please visit the station to collect a bag to fill. We welcome you to return the filled bags to us, and we will arrange for them to be taken to Geelong, or you may choose to do so yourself and select to donate the money to Winchelsea CFA. We are available at the fire station every Sunday morning at 10am for our radio testing.

Today, the Winchelsea Tanker travelled to Bendigo to stand alongside CFA volunteers from across Victoria and send a clear message to the Government.

Volunteers are tired of being left behind while being expected to do more with less. We continue to hear promises of increased funding, yet many brigades are still operating with an ageing fleet of trucks and equipment that are well past their prime.

As many of you witnessed during last fire season, the number of appliances that travelled through Winchelsea on their way to support communities in Carlisle River and Gellibrand was significant. Volunteers continue to answer the call, no matter where help is needed.

We are proud to serve and protect our communities, but we will not take a back seat when it comes to the safety of our members and the communities we protect. Our volunteers deserve the resources, equipment, and support needed to do the job safely and effectively.

The message is simple: support the volunteers who support Victoria.

A year ago, firefighters across Victoria stood together and declared they had reached breaking point.

Today, very little has changed. The pressure remains, the frustration continues, and the fight is far from over.

In the coming months, you will once again see volunteers out in the community reminding Victorians what is truly at stake if the government fails to act.

This is not about politics. It is about protecting our volunteers, supporting our brigades, and ensuring communities continue to receive the emergency services they rely on.

Firefighters have continued to show up for Victoria every single day. Now we are asking Victoria to stand with us.

🔥 Structure Fire – Winchelsea Township (Early Hours) 🔥

In the early hours of this morning, Winchelsea Brigade was paged to a structure fire in the township of Winchelsea.

On arrival, crews found a shed well involved, with reports of multiple explosions. Firefighters worked quickly and effectively to contain the fire to one end of the shed, preventing further spread. Despite this, the shed sustained extensive heat and smoke damage throughout.

Fire investigators have determined the cause of the fire was a lithium‑ion battery.

This morning’s fire is a timely reminder that lithium‑ion battery fires can happen in any home or shed. Prevention, correct charging and early action are critical.

If a battery is smoking or on fire, do not attempt to extinguish it – move away if safe to do so and call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Your local CFA volunteers are here to protect the community, but your actions at home can prevent these fires before they start.

Today, on Mother’s Day, we want to recognise the incredible mums, grandmothers and those stepping into mother roles. behind our brigade members. ❤️
The mums who hold the fort while the pager goes off The mums who pause birthday dinners, leave Christmas presents unopened, step away from family moments and special occasions, all without hesitation, because they know someone in the community needs help.
Behind every volunteer is a family making sacrifices too and we see yours.
Thank you for your patience, your understanding, your strength and the support you give, not just today, but every single day of the year.
From all of us at the Brigade, Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mums and mother figures in our community.

Loved watching our Juniors master their knots tonight and show real leadership by helping and encouraging each other. Great teamwork, great attitudes, and plenty of skills being built along the way 👏🔥

🔥 Burn-Off Reminder 🔥
If you’ve done a burn-off this week, go back and check it.
Fire danger is expected to spike tomorrow.
âś… Wet it down
âś… Turn it over
âś… Make sure it is completely out
We’ve already seen multiple call-outs across Victoria from old burn-offs reigniting and spreading into grass and bush.
Conditions change fast. What looks safe today might not be tomorrow.
Do the right thing. Protect your community.

Today, the members of the Winchelsea Fire Brigade pause to honour and remember the courage, sacrifice, and spirit of the men and women who have served, and continue to serve, our country.

On this ANZAC Day, we reflect on the bravery shown by the ANZACs and all service personnel, and the legacy they have left for future generations. Their resilience, mateship, and dedication are values that continue to guide us in our own service to the community.

We encourage everyone to take a moment today to remember those who gave so much for our freedom.
