Always says yes. Always helps out. Stays back to get it finished. They're the person everyone relies on.

That's exactly why we need to pay attention. Fatigue, excessive workload and a lack of support are safety risks too, just like physical hazards.

Same warehouse. Same day. Two very different outcomes.

The difference isn't luck, it's whether people know what's expected and why it matters.

☕️ We’re looking for a local café, coffee van or catering business interested in taking on a regular Wednesday morning booking in Corrimal.

We currently have around 15–20 people each week and we’re growing! 🚀 So we expect those numbers to increase over time.

We need coffees delivered around 6:30–6:45am, ready for our 7am start. Ideally, we’d also love some fresh, healthy breakfast options – think breakfast boxes, fruit and yoghurt, protein shakes, wraps or similar. We’re very open to ideas!

This isn’t a one-off either. We meet almost every Wednesday of the year (we only take around four weeks off), so it’s an opportunity for a local business to add a consistent weekly group booking.

We’d love to support another local business and find someone who can grow with us. ☕️

If this could work for your business, comment below or reach out to me.

And if you have a favourite café, coffee van or caterer, tag them below and let’s see if they can help us out! 👇

Does your workplace have any of the following?

✅Drill chuck doesn’t grip properly unless you crank the hell out of it.
✅The grinder with the questionable guard.
✅Chipped windscreen on the work truck.
✅The powerboard that’s plugged into another powerboard, and into another powerboard.
✅Forklift tyne that has been used to push so many times the end is now a hook.

And because everyone knows about it, somehow it starts to feel less risky.

Knowing something is dodgy isn't the same as controlling the risk.

If a piece of equipment needs a warning passed down from worker to worker like some kind of workplace folklore, it might be time to fix it, replace it or take it out of service.

This is hands down my favourite part of the week. I'm always so energised and after being around so many amazing business people.

If you want to come along for brekky and chat, please let me know.

Business is better when you’re not doing it alone.

One of the best parts of BNI Seacliff is being surrounded by business owners who genuinely want to see each other succeed.

It’s not just about referrals. It’s about building relationships, sharing ideas, learning from each other and having a room full of people who understand the highs, lows and chaos that can come with running a business.

Every week, we come together to connect, support one another and help create opportunities for businesses across the Illawarra.

If you’ve been looking for a room full of like-minded business people who are genuinely interested in helping each other grow, come and see what BNI Seacliff is all about.

Reach out to one of our members if you’d like to visit a meeting.

A procedure might tell you how a job is supposed to be done. That doesn't necessarily mean that's how it's being done.

Over time, things change.
🏗️Equipment changes.
😏People find shortcuts.
📶Workloads increase.

And sometimes the process written three years ago bears very little resemblance to what's happening today.

One of the simplest safety checks you can do is get out into the workplace and actually watch the job being done. Not to catch someone doing something wrong,

To understand what's really happening.
❓Ask what's difficult.
❓Ask what gets in the way.
❓Ask what they would change.

Because you can't manage a risk you don't know exists.

You can spend hours reviewing procedures, risk assessments and safety documents…

Or you can walk out into the workplace and ask your team:
“What makes your job harder or less safe than it needs to be?”

You might be surprised by the answer. The people doing the job every day often know exactly where the problems are!

✅The awkward manual handling task.
✅The piece of equipment that plays up.
✅The process everyone works around.
✅The job that always feels rushed.
✅The PPE that does not fit properly.
✅The near miss that's happened more than once.

One of the key challenges is making sure they feel comfortable telling you about it, and then actually doing something with that information.

Good safety systems matter, but don't forget one of the best sources of safety information you've already got.

Your people.

Having a WHS folder doesn't mean you have a safety system.

Policies. Procedures. Risk assessments. SWMS. Forms for everything.

Ask a worker about one of them and sometimes you get "what procedure?"

That's the gap. Paperwork only works if it matches what actually happens on the floor.
