Representing Australia's marine pilots in Canberra

AMPI President Josephine Clark, Deputy President Ricky Rouse and International Maritime Pilots' Association (IMPA) Vice President Adam Roberts spent the day meeting with Australian Maritime Safety Authority and the Department of Infrastructure to discuss pilotage, maritime safety, workforce development and the future of the maritime profession.

These conversations ensure the voice of marine pilots is heard on issues that affect our industry, our profession and the next generation of maritime leaders.

Thank you to AMSA and the Department for their time and constructive engagement.

Workshop Sponsor & Coffee Cart Sponsor Spotlight

As we count down to the 2026 AMPI Regional Ports & Pilotage Conference in Darwin, we'd like to recognise two valued sponsors helping to enhance the delegate experience.

A big thank you to Wärtsilä, our Coffee Cart Sponsor, who will be keeping delegates fuelled throughout the conference. Whether it's a morning coffee before sessions begin or a catch-up between colleagues during a break, the coffee cart is always a popular hub for conversation and networking.

We would also like to thank North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation, sponsor of our Seafarer Welfare Workshop. Taking place on the final day of the conference, this important workshop will explore the challenges facing seafarers and the role that pilots, ports, welfare organisations and industry stakeholders can play in supporting their wellbeing. The workshop will feature a panel of respected industry voices and promises to be an engaging and thought-provoking discussion on a topic that affects the entire maritime community.

Registrations for Darwin close soon, and we encourage anyone planning to attend to secure their place before registrations close on 5 June 2026.

We look forward to welcoming delegates to Darwin for what is shaping up to be an outstanding conference.

One of the great parts of coming together for an AMPI conference is the chance to catch up with colleagues and friends outside of the conference sessions. Darwin 2026 will include a range of social events across the week, giving delegates plenty of opportunities to connect and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the Top End.

With Darwin’s dry season bringing warm weather and beautiful evenings, we’re encouraging everyone to lean into the tropical setting with light, comfortable and fun tropical-inspired attire for the social functions. Think relaxed shirts, colourful dresses and breathable fabrics suited to the Darwin climate.

Social events for the week include:
☀️ Welcome Event - Frangipani Plaza, Darwin Convention Centre
☀️Gala Dinner - Mindil Beach Casino Resort
☀️Wash-up Event - The Precinct, Darwin Waterfront

More information on the social events can be found here: https://events.ampi.org.au/darwin2026/Socialevents

The International Maritime Pilots' Association (IMPA)' Safety Campaign 2026 has begun and will run until 29 May. We encourage all Maritime Pilots to get involved.

The IMPA Safety Survey remains one of the industry’s most important safety initiatives, helping to identify ongoing issues with unsafe pilot transfer arrangements and providing valuable data to support real improvements across the maritime sector. The information gathered through this campaign continues to play a critical role in enhancing safety standards and protecting lives at sea.

We encourage all pilots to download the survey app in advance and take part in this important global safety effort:
