TIP TUESDAY!!
If you had to choose between the two trailers below to reverse, which one would you think is easier? 1. the small (dog) trailer, or 2. the dual axle caravan?
Ok, you're not really going to reverse the dog trailer behind your car but you get the idea.
You might be surprised to learn that small trailers are more difficult to reverse for a couple of reasons:
1. they're more reactive (zig zaggy) and respond quickly and sharply to corrections
2. often, these trailers can't be seen behind your vehicle so there's a feeling of "where's it gone" and next think you know you're jackknifed without knowing it!
Small trailers aren't the best to use when practicing reversing. Let me say that again - small trailers aren't the best to use when practicing reversing!
Find a trailer / horse float / caravan that you can at least see clearly at all times. They also will respond less erratically and provide an opportunity to feel the smoothness or a correctly done reverse.
