Let’s talk about this.

A customer walks into your business.

Do they have the right to expect great service?

Absolutely.

Do they have the right to be rude to your staff?

I don’t think so.

Somewhere along the way, “the customer is always right” became an excuse for bad behaviour.

I’ve seen café staff abused.

Retail staff abused.

Apprentices abused.

Receptionists abused.

Business owners abused.

In my opinion, customers deserve respect.

But so do the people serving them.

Agree or disagree?

You look after the business. I’ll make sure people see it. ♟️

The uncomfortable truth nobody wants to hear about social media.

Most businesses don’t have a content problem.

They have a consistency problem.

They post when they feel motivated.

Their competitors post whether they feel like it or not.

That’s why one business becomes visible and the other becomes invisible.

You look after the business. I’ll make sure people see it.

One thing I’ve learned over the years.

Great businesses are everywhere.

Some are household names.

Others are hidden gems that deserve far more attention than they get.

That’s why I’m excited to be working with Sparxx

An Australian business providing safety sunglasses designed for people who work hard and play hard.

Over the coming months you’ll see some of the content we’re creating together.

One of the best parts of what I do is getting to work with passionate business owners who genuinely believe in their product and want more people to discover it.

Welcome aboard Benji and the Sparxx team.

Most people think social media management happens behind a desk.

Sometimes it does.

But the best content usually comes from being on site.

Walking the jobs.

Meeting the owners.

Seeing the work firsthand.

Understanding what makes a business different.

That’s why I spend so much time out and about with the businesses I work with.

Because the best stories aren’t sitting in a camera roll.

They’re happening every day while people are busy running their business.

This week I was on site with Baz from Painting Services.

So here’s my question:

What do customers value most?

1. Price
2. Quality
3. Reputation
4. Trust

You can only pick one.

You look after the business. I’ll make sure people see it. ♟️

I’ve spent the last few years working with small business owners across dozens of different industries.

One thing I’ve learnt is that customers usually see the finished product.

They don’t always see the early starts, late finishes, rising costs, staff challenges, paperwork, insurance, compliance and everything else happening behind the scenes.

So I’m curious.

What’s one thing you wish more customers understood about running a small business?

This isn’t asphalt.

It’s trust.

One of the things I love most about what I do is getting to spend time inside businesses and see what happens behind the scenes.

This week I was on site with North Coast Asphalts gathering content.

To most people, it’s just another job getting done.

To me, it’s a story worth telling.

The best content doesn’t start behind a desk.

It starts by showing up, meeting people and understanding the business.

That’s where great content comes from.

A few years ago, Kurt Fearnley visited Bluebottles.

Like most Australians, I already knew who he was.

A Paralympic champion.

A marathon winner.

A bloke who crawled the Kokoda Track to raise awareness for men’s health.

But after spending some time chatting with him, one thing stood out.

Persistence.

Not talent.

Not luck.

Persistence.

Over the years I’ve noticed the same thing in business.

The businesses that survive and grow aren’t always the biggest.

They aren’t always the smartest.

And they don’t always have the best product.

They’re the ones that keep showing up.

They adapt.

They stay visible.

They keep going when things get tough.

I spent 17 years in banking.

10 years running Bluebottles.

And now I manage social media for more than 40 businesses.

After all that, one thing has never changed.

If people don’t know you exist, they can’t buy from you.

Visibility matters.

More than two years ago, West High Street Boutique Butchery reached out and asked me to help with their social media.

Today, I’m still working with them.

Not because of one post.

Not because of one photo.

Not because of one video.

Because relationships matter.

When I first started Seeing Double, I thought social media was mostly about content.

What I’ve learned is that the content is only part of the story.

Taking the time to understand a business.

Learning what makes it different.

Getting to know the people behind it.

Showing up consistently.

That’s what builds long-term partnerships.

Over the past two years I’ve had the privilege of working alongside Glenn, Nicole, Bob, Nola and the entire West High Street team.

Good people running a great local business.

Thank you for the trust, support and the opportunity to help tell your story.

How long have you been working with your longest-standing customer, supplier or service provider?

Follow Seeing Double if you want someone who takes the time to understand your business before posting about it.

Today I took Clyde to the chiropractor.

Nothing’s wrong with him.

That’s the whole point.

Most people wait until there’s a problem.

A sore back.
A limping dog.
A business that’s gone quiet.

But the best results usually come from the things we do before there’s a problem.

The maintenance.

The small actions.

The consistent effort applied over time.

It’s no different with social media.

The businesses that stay visible aren’t the ones scrambling when sales slow down.

They’re the ones showing up consistently long before they need customers.

What’s one thing you do consistently in your business that will pay off six months from now?

Follow Seeing Double if you want your business to stay visible, not just become visible when things get tough.

Have you noticed how many businesses have nobody telling their story?

Great business.

Great service.

Great staff.

Great reputation.

But almost no photos.

No updates.

No behind-the-scenes.

No customer stories.

Nothing.

If someone discovered their page today, they’d think the business stopped operating six months ago.

One of the biggest opportunities I see isn’t creating better content.

It’s simply showing people you’re still here.

Still working.

Still helping customers.

Still doing what you do best.

This photo was taken with Olympic gold medallist Herb Elliott.

For years it sat in my camera roll doing nothing.

Most business owners don’t need more content.

They already have it.

Sometimes it’s sitting in a camera roll.

Sometimes it’s a customer story.

Sometimes it’s a photo that’s been forgotten for years.

The stories are already there.

They just need someone to help tell them.

When was the last time you posted about your business?

Tag a mate who needs a social media manager.

You look after the business.

I’ll make sure people see it.
