🔥 Protecting our townships starts now.

While it’s been a wet couple of months, now is the time to start preparing properties for the warmer months and reducing potential fire risks.

Council’s Municipal Fire Prevention Inspections will commence this week across the Shire.

Residents and property owners are encouraged to:
🌿 Mow or slash long grass
🏡 Tidy overgrown areas
🗑️ Remove rubbish, debris and other potential fire hazards
🔥 Reduce fuel around homes, sheds and other structures

Where a property is identified as overgrown or presenting a fire hazard, Council may issue a Fire Prevention Notice requiring works to be completed within a specified timeframe.

Council is also working across the Shire to support fire season preparation:

🌱 Free green waste is available at Council transfer stations and landfills throughout October, helping residents clean up their properties.

🚜 Mowing of our strategic firebreaks identified across the municipality is now underway.

🚒 CFA Get Fire Ready sessions are also being held this month, giving residents the opportunity to talk with CFA members about fire preparedness:
📍 Donald – Saturday 10 October
📍 Watchem – Wednesday 14 October
📍 Charlton – Saturday 17 October

Everyone has a role to play in preparing for fire season. Check your property, plan ahead and take action now to help keep our towns and communities fire ready.

Questions about Council’s fire prevention inspections? Contact Council’s Municipal Fire Prevention Officer on 1300 520 520.

🌀 Melburnians, it's time: twin cyclones from WA and QLD are set to make landfall on the 'G this afternoon.

Before these giants collide, seek shelter indoors, ideally with a TV and snacks close by.

⚓ Cyclone Freo has been tracking east all week, generating destructive noise levels from a unique phenomenon known as Wharfie Time.

🦁 Approaching from the north, Cyclone Brissy will intensify through Fitzroy, with increased pressure and roaring crowds likely from 2:30pm.

Victorians jumping on the interstate bandwagon should plan ahead. Download the VicEmergency app and set up a watch zone to stay informed of other emergencies that may occur wherever you go - from the 'G to your long weekend getaway.
