Simpson Estate are thrilled to share the results of the National Wine Show 2022, with Simpson Estate wines again being recognised as some of the best in their class.

The National Wine Show of Australia has been a highlight on the Australian wine industry calendar since it began in 1975. With only the highest-awarded wines at qualifying Australian wine shows making it to the judging table, National Wine Show winners represent the best of the best Australian wines.

It is with great pleasure that we can announce that our 2020 Elaine Chardonnay has been awarded a SILVER medal. We look forward to sharing this wine with you soon, due to be released October 2022.

Nestled in a valley in Yallingup, at the northern end of the Margaret River Region, the Simpson Estate vineyard was planted in 1998 by respected wine industry expert Albert Haak.

Encompassing 4.5 hectares of the 6.5-hectare property, the vineyard features predominately Cabernet Sauvignon, along with small amount of Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Shiraz.

Simpson Estate are thrilled to share that you can now enjoy a glass of 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon at Peps Wine Bar in Peppermint Grove.

Please do stop by for a glass when next in the area, a great wine bar that is a favourite of ours in Perth.

Decanter wine judge recently commented on the 2016 with "Coffee, oak aromas, with generous fruit and sour cherries. Noticeable spice and pepper with good complexity"

Fantastic news just in from the Royal Adelaide Wine Awards; more medals for the 2018 and 2019 Elaine Chardonnays and 2018 Jenny Cabernet. This is hot on the heels of major medal success at the Decanter World Wine Awards in London and Perth Royal Wine Show. We eagerly await results from the International Wine Challenge too, which takes place in London later this month.

All of these wines, and some limited Museum stock, are available direct at our website and, from this weekend, at Lamont’s Wine Store, Cottesloe.

Our wonderful vineyard team have just finished planting 3,480 Cabernet rootlings - an extraordinary task involving a great deal of vineyard preparation (new trellises, retic and a whole lot of holes) and a year of cultivating the new rootlings in the nursery.

We made the decision to replace one hectare of Shiraz and Merlot with Bordeaux M337 and Houghton Cabernet clones. The M337 clone is one of the highest-rated Cabernet varieties planted in Bordeaux; its relatively small grapes bring colour intensity and higher levels of fine tannins. The Houghton clone, which makes up the balance of Simpson Estate’s existing 22 year old vines, is the clone seen in all of Margaret River’s iconic Cabernets.

The fruit will eventually go into our award-winning Cabernet, which has again been scooping medals at the wine shows this year.

We’d love you to join us for the celebration of the much-awaited release of our latest vintages of Chardonnay and Cabernet. John Jens, of Lamont’s Wine Store, has arranged a lunch, masterclass and dinner for Sunday, November 8.

We'll celebrate the release of the 2019 Elaine Chardonnay and 2017 Jenny Cabernet with a noon lunch, a 4-6pm masterclass and a 6.30pm dinner at Lamont's Wine Store in Cottesloe.

The lunch and masterclass are being hosted by one of Australia's leading wine writers, Erin Larkin, and the dinner by the legendary John Jens.

Each of the functions will feature a vertical of all (2013-2017) Cabernets, the 2016 Shiraz and the 2018 and 2019 Chardonnays. The masterclass is only $40, whilst the 5 course wine lunch and wine dinner are each just $95.

Bookings are now available directly with Lamont’s. It’s best to book early…Phone 9385 0666.

We look forward to seeing you there (feel free to bring some friends and introduce them to your favourite wine!)

We recently had the pleasure of a barrel tasting with our head winemaker, Clive Otto, a past (and most humble) Australian Winemaker of the Year.

It was a lengthy session, reviewing all the wines currently in barrel - the 2019 and 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec, and 2020 Chardonnay. This is always a wonderful experience, as we note the development of each wine and its varying characteristics depending on the range of barrel ages, grains and degrees of toasting.

We are delighted with the progress of all varieties and are looking forward to bottling in December. Stay tuned! 🍷
