It’s not a mindset issue. It’s a capacity issue.

Most workplaces try to fix stress and performance at the surface — policy, frameworks, wellbeing strategies. But if your people don’t have the capacity to use any of it, none of it sticks.

Leadership.
Behaviour.
Communication.
Performance.

None of it is a mindset problem.
It’s a capacity problem — and capacity is a physiological state before it’s anything else.

I’m Lou Lugsdin, founder of The Team Approach — a boutique EAP and executive capacity coaching provider. I don’t just help leaders achieve their goals. I help them build the capacity to achieve them.

Ever snapped at someone over something so small it embarrassed you five minutes later?
Or read the same email three times and still couldn’t tell you what it said?

That’s not you being “difficult” or “checked out.” That’s your capacity running low.

Here are the signs most people miss (because they’ve quietly become “normal”):

🔴 Short fuse — snapping over things that never used to bother you
🔴 Flatness — going through the motions, nothing feels fun
🔴 Decision fatigue — even small choices feel exhausting
🔴 Foggy focus — can’t absorb what you’re reading
🔴 Withdrawal — cancelling plans, going quiet
🔴 Physical tension — clenched jaw, tight shoulders you don’t notice until someone points it out
🔴 Running on caffeine and willpower — because rest doesn’t actually feel restful anymore

Here’s the part that matters: none of this means something is wrong with who you are.
It means your nervous system is carrying more than it can hold right now.

And if capacity can run low, it can also be rebuilt.

And that is what we love to do at The Team Approach.
We are capacity builders and love working alongside people to build capacity!

💬 Genuinely curious — which one hit closest to home for you? Let us know in the comments.

That’s not “just stress.” That’s low capacity.

Signs your nervous system is running on empty:
🔴 Short fuse
🔴 Flatness — nothing feels fun
🔴 Decision fatigue
🔴 Foggy focus
🔴 Withdrawal
🔴 Physical tension
🔴 Running on caffeine + willpower

None of these are character flaws. They’re signs of a system past its limit.

Not broken. Just depleted. And fixable. 🙌

And this is the work we do best.
We help people build capacity so they can have more time, more calm, more energy, more fun, more success!

Ever had one of those weeks where the smallest thing tips you over? Traffic, a whingy kid, an email in the “wrong” tone — and suddenly you’re snapping, or flat, or just… done?

That’s not a bad attitude.
That’s low capacity.

When your capacity is full, you’ve got more:
🕐 Time (because you’re not stuck firefighting)
🔋 Energy (because you’re not white-knuckling through the day)
💛 Patience (for the kids, the partner, the colleague)
🌊 Calm (even when things don’t go to plan)
✨ Confidence
😄 Fun — because there’s actually room for it

We help leaders, teams, and individuals build real capacity through counselling and coaching — so people can function better at work, at home, and everywhere in between.

Because who doesn’t want more patience, more calm, and a bit more fun in their week?

💬 Tell us — where do YOU notice your capacity dip first? Patience? Energy? Something else?

Capacity isn’t a personality trait.

It’s how much your nervous system can hold before it tips into survival mode.

Low capacity doesn’t look like “bad attitude.”
It looks like:
🔴 short fuses
🔴 zero patience
🔴 foggy thinking
🔴 no room for fun

Build capacity and you get it all back — time, energy, patience, calm, confidence, fun.

That’s the work we do.
We help people build their capacity!
Real change, no fluff.

3:47pm. Someone says the deadline just moved up a week.

Watch what happens in the next ten seconds.

One person jumps straight to problem-solving — voice sharper, already pushing back on the timeline.

Another goes quiet, eyes down, says nothing for the rest of the meeting.

A third starts nodding, agreeing to everything, already rearranging their whole week to make it work.

A fourth cracks a joke, smooths the tension, checks in on everyone else — and never mentions they’re underwater too.

Four completely different reactions.
Same trigger.

None of them are overreacting.
That’s Fight, Freeze, Flight, and Fawn — four nervous systems doing exactly what they evolved to do: protect the person attached to them.

The problem isn’t that your team has these responses.
Everyone does.
The problem is when no one — including the person having the reaction — knows what’s actually happening. So it gets read as attitude, weakness, people-pleasing, or being “too much.”

Once a team can name it, everything changes.
Conflict de-escalates faster.
People stop taking each other’s stress responses personally.
Leaders stop managing behaviour and start managing what’s actually underneath it.

Save this for the next time a deadline lands in your team 📌

If that 3:47pm scenario felt familiar, I’m offering 3 free 30-45 min taster sessions of Meet Your Inner Reptile™ in September and October — for staff meetings, leadership teams, or workplace groups. No cost, real value, a genuine look at what a full session does for a team.

Spots are limited — comment “REPTILE” or DM me and I’ll send the details.

I’ve had so much interest in E-DISC lately — and I am here for it.

E-DISC is our profiling tool of choice at The Team Approach, and I love watching more leaders and teams discover what it can actually do.

Here’s the thing though — the profile is just the start. The magic is in how it’s delivered.

We don’t do rushed chats and a PDF you never open again. We deliver proper, thorough training — building real awareness step by step, so it actually lands and gets embedded into how your team works.

✨ Leaders — an individual E-DISC Profile is serious personal development. Real clarity on your energy, your strengths and your blind spots. Honestly, a must-do.

✨ Teams — an E-DISC Team Unpack builds real understanding of how your people communicate, decide and work best. So it becomes part of your culture, not just a talking point.

Corporate head office?
Small business?
Team based rural or regional?
Doesn’t matter — We’d love to be your go-to for E-DISC.
