On Country, In Context — Working Effectively with Northern Australia
In the community development sector, we know that true engagement and strong relationships begin by first building respect and understanding.

This is especially true for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Northern Australia, where organisations are increasingly recognising that meaningful outcomes cannot be achieved without investment in cultural capacity, safety, community ownership and genuine support for self-determination.
Widely recognised as a leader in the cultural capability and Indigenous engagement sectors, CCC Director Jason Elsegood brings over 30 years’ experience working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, organisations and industry across Northern Australia.

Participants of this session will join Jason for a thought-provoking session exploring how professionals, organisations and community development leaders can work more respectfully, effectively and successfully alongside Indigenous communities across regional and remote Northern Australia.

The focus of this workshop will include:

- What cultural safety looks like in practice

- Why community-led approaches matter

- Building trust through respectful engagement

- Understanding local decision-making and authority

- Supporting self-determination, not dependency

Moving beyond consultation toward genuine partnership

In discussion with Jason, participants of this session will be encouraged to rethink how projects, services and relationships are developed and sustained in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander contexts across the northern half of the Australian continent.

Each year, 26 May marks National Sorry Day, acknowledging the Stolen Generations.
The Stolen Generations were the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children forcibly removed from their families between the mid-1800s and 1980s — and the tabling of the Bringing them home report in 1997.

We remember the past. We respect the present. We walk together for a better future.

Did you know you may receive more than one ballot paper when you vote?

In many Australia elections, including federal, state and territory elections, you vote for:

A lower house (House of Representatives) – where you number candidates in order of your preference.

An upper house (Senate) – where you can choose to vote above or below the line.

Each ballot paper has its own instruction, and following them helps make sure your vote counts.

This factsheet explains how different ballot papers work and how to fill them out correctly.
