Thinking about an EV? Your solar might not be ready to carry 100% of the load ⚡

Tony thinks the setup you put in a few years back might not keep up once you're charging a car at home.

Planning to go electric — would you size your system for it now, or wait until you have to?

Your Roof Has a Job. Is It Doing It?

A 6.6kW solar system is one of the most common sizes on Australian homes—but most people have no idea how much electricity theirs should actually produce.

Is it 10kWh a day?
25kWh?
Should it ever reach the full 6.6kW?

The answer is generally around 23 to 33kWh per day, averaged across the year. But your location, roof direction, shading, weather and equipment all affect the final number.

And no, one rainy Tuesday doesn’t mean your solar is broken. 🌧️

Our latest guide explains:

☀️ How much a 6.6kW system should generate
❄️ Why output falls during winter
⚡ Why many systems use a 5kW inverter
📱 How to spot genuine underperformance
🔋 Whether 6.6kW is enough for a home battery
🏠 When a larger system makes more sense

Whether you already have solar or you’re comparing quotes, this guide will help you separate realistic production from optimistic sales promises.

☀️ Solar rebates are reducing—but what even are they?

You’ve heard solar and battery rebates are shrinking. Before worrying about missing out, it helps to understand what a “rebate” is.

Despite the name, the federal solar rebate usually isn’t cash paid into your bank account.

Eligible solar systems create certificates with financial value. You usually assign these certificates to your solar retailer, who deducts their value from your system price.

In plain English:

☀️ You install an eligible solar system
📄 The system generates certificates
💰 Their value reduces your upfront price
✅ Your solar company usually handles the paperwork

Eligible home batteries can also get an upfront federal discount. Some households may combine this with other state or territory programs.

The catch? These incentives won’t stay at current levels. As the schemes step down, the discount shrinks, and you pay more of the system price.

We’ve broken down Australia’s solar rebates, how they work, and what you should check before accepting a quote.
