Important Notice for the trade with the USA!!!!!!
As you may know the negotiations between unions and east coast ports came to a halt during the first part of this year.
Unions have demand which are not accepted and at this moment they are not on speaking terms.
Due to expected delays shipping lines already announced increase of rates starting with usd 1000,- per teu.
So apparently the strike is still on. Here are some of the main points.
1. 36 ports on the US East Coast will be affected by the ILA strike ( port everglades ( king ocean/tropical are private ports and at this stage unclear if they will participate or not. However a blockade of gate is easy to arrange.
2. This will affect approximately 50% of US imports
3. Strike to take effect from 12:01am October 1st 2024
4. Core of the issue: (a) ILA wants 80% increase over 6 years (b) ILA wants wording in the new agreement to limit automation in order to preserve jobs
5. Reports suggest that all parties are a long way apart hence disruption is likely
6. There is concern as well that the ILWU, the Union that represents the west coast ports may down tools in solidarity
