PwC Azerbaijan is pleased to announce the appointment of Shaukat Tapia as the new Country Managing Partner, effective from 1 July 2024. Shaukat will be responsible for leading and driving the strategic direction and operations of PwC Azerbaijan.

Shaukat brings over 20 years of extensive professional experience across Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Mongolia. Since 2011, he has served as the Country Managing Partner and Leader of the Assurance practice at PwC Mongolia. Shaukat holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Audit from Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics in India and is a Certified Public Accountant (Colorado, USA), a Lifetime Mongolia Auditor, and a MONICPA member.

Throughout his career, Shaukat has provided audit and advisory services to large and medium-sized public and private clients across various sectors, including mining, manufacturing, entertainment, technology, and communications. His expertise spans IFRS diagnostics, internal audits, IFRS conversion projects, and deep knowledge of IFRS, US GAAP, Canadian GAAP, and SOX-404.

In addition to his core assurance services, Shaukat has led numerous non-assurance engagements, including COBIT audits, internal audits, and agreed-upon procedures (AUP) engagements. He has also played a crucial role in major deals and due diligence projects within the food and beverages and telecom sectors in Mongolia.

Commenting on his new role, Shaukat said: “This is an incredible honor and an enormous responsibility, especially at this important time in our country and region. I look forward to exciting times ahead with the PwC community of solvers, building trust and delivering sustained outcomes with our clients and in our society. ”

The business environment is changing and so are shopping behaviors. Consumers are leading the way toward a new wave of digitally-enabled customer experiences, based on their personalized combinations of physical and online options. These and others are insights from the interview with Tofig Suleymanov, General Manager of .azerbaijan who participated in the survey for the first time and shared insights on challenges in e-commerce and opportunities amid the digital market and technology adoption.

"Customers are already used to fast delivery from restaurants, but now groceries, beauty products, pharmacy deliveries and other goods are also brought to their door in less than an hour. At Wolt, we are very excited to continue expanding the e-commerce business in Azerbaijan next year and helping local grocery and specialty stores grow by capitalizing on our fast last-mile logistics app, " said Mr. Suleymanov.

Mr. Suleymanov talked about the investment priorities and emphasized automating processes and upskilling the company’s workforce as priority areas.

On the morning of November 27th, after 3 hours of climbing, PwC Azerbaijan's assurance team raised flag at the highest point of Kepez, 3066m asl. We are proud of such an amazing, diverse and strong team and I’m so proud of each climber - all three of them have reached the summit,100% success rate. Through the storm, the challanges and patience to the gratitude, smiles, laugh and happiness... to the top.

For another year in a row, Mr. Cenk Yuksel, Chairman of the .az accepted our offer for the in-person CEO survey interview last Wednesday.

During the interview, Mr. Yuksel touched on key threats, potential economic challenges, investment areas, and new sources of value that affect the banking sector and capital markets.

Compared to last year, Mr. Yuksel was less optimistic about the global economic growth for the next year, while the optimism about the Azerbaijani economy is still high. In addition, Mr. Yuksel highlighted the importance of NGOs, Governments and Academic institutions for creating new sources of value in YapiKredi Bank AZ and noted that the bank’s current path would be economically viable for more than ten years.

Our live interviews are at full speed. This time we met with the newly appointed CEO of  David Tsiklauri and talked about the challenges that CEOs face in the banking and financial industry.  

During the interview, Mr Tsiklauri and Aysel Suleymanova discussed economic growth, actions to mitigate against potential economic challenges and the areas of investment.

Mr. Tsiklauri believes that technology disruptions, skills shortages and regulation changes can impact the profitability of Access Bank to a considerable extent, while automating processes, deploying technology and upskilling the workforce are priority areas for continuous improvement.
