2nd Year BCC Architecture Student Tour

In October 2025, the 2nd year BCC architecture students visited our Rockley Residences project. An opportunity not typically included in their coursework. The tour gave students firsthand exposure to real-world construction processes and techniques such as how precast concrete forms are installed and the behind the scenes of MEP installation.

The first of two tours our hope is that this experience helps bridge the gap between theory and practice, enriching their understanding of the industry.

Working on my largest and smallest project at the same time.

Looking forward to working on this little treasure on the east coast.

Didn't find any rock for the foundation - typical on this coast. Had to improvise .... that's construction for you.

Honouring Santiago Calatrava — Born on July 28, 1951, in Valencia, Spain, Calatrava is a visionary architect and engineer celebrated for transforming structural design into sculptural art.

With a background in both architecture and civil engineering, his work reflects a deep understanding of movement, balance, and form. His hometown masterpiece, the City of Arts and Sciences, reimagines public space through futuristic design and cultural purpose. Across the Atlantic, his design of the World Trade Center Transportation Hub (Oculus) in New York stands as a soaring symbol of resilience and renewal.

Today, we celebrate a master of modern architecture whose creations inspire both reflection and innovation.

Honouring Ludwig Mies van der Rohe — Born on March 27, 1886, in Aachen, Germany, and passing on August 17, 1969, in Chicago, Illinois, Mies was a visionary architect whose legacy shaped the very foundation of modern architecture. A leader of the Bauhaus movement and a master of the International Style, he championed simplicity, structural integrity, and the philosophy that “less is more.”

After immigrating to the United States in 1938, Mies served as the head of architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology, where he redefined architectural education. His work combined industrial materials with precision and clarity, creating spaces that were both rational and poetic.

Among his most iconic works are the Edith Farnsworth House (1951), a minimalist glass-and-steel residence harmonising with nature, and IBM Plaza (1973), one of his final skyscrapers—a towering symbol of disciplined elegance in downtown Chicago. Mies didn’t just design buildings; he shaped a modern aesthetic that continues to influence architecture to this day.

Honouring Zaha Hadid — Born on October 31, 1950, in Baghdad, Iraq, Hadid was a trailblazing Iraqi-British architect known for her radical forms and futuristic designs that redefined the boundaries of architecture.

Her work defied gravity, convention, and expectations, from the flowing Heydar Aliyev Centre in Baku, Azerbaijan, to the sculptural geometry of MAXXI in Rome, Italy.

As the first woman to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2004, she shattered gender barriers and inspired a new generation of designers. Zaha Hadid passed away on March 31, 2016, but her legacy lives on in every bold line and sweeping curve she imagined.

🕰️ The Main Guard, Barbados: Timeless Heritage in the Heart of the Garrison

Built in 1804, the Main Guard House & Clock Tower is one of the most iconic Georgian-style buildings in Barbados.

The building features a rare Coade stone Coat of Arms of King George III and a clock tower crafted in London by Dwerrihouse & Carter (1803), still chiming every 15 minutes. It also has the world’s best collections of 17th-century English cannons, including pieces dating back to 1620.

Overlooking the Garrison Savannah, it once served as the central command post for British military police and court martials until 1905 and is a striking symbol of colonial power turned cultural landmark. The Main Guard remains the architectural heart of the UNESCO-listed Garrison Historic Area.
