Indian ringneck parakeets (๐๐ด๐ช๐ต๐ต๐ข๐ค๐ถ๐ญ๐ข ๐ฌ๐ณ๐ข๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ช๐ข) are native to Africa and the Indian subcontinent, but successful populations have established themselves in ever increasing populations to many parts of the world due to escapees of the exotic bird trade.

The parakeet is one of the few s*xually dimorphic species. Adult males exhibit a red and black neck ring and hens or immature birds of both s*xes have no ring or have a shadowy pale or gray neck ring. Albino rings, lack the ability to produce feather pigments and are therefore s*xually monomorphic. Wild-type ringnecks are green, but a colour mutations including grey, yellow, turquoise, white, olive, blue and violet have become popular among aviculturists.

As long as you are willing and able to give your ringneck daily affection then they make sweet, tame pets however neglected birds can quickly become biters. When it comes to speech, they are very chatty and are great whistlers. Be sure to teach your birds to speak before whistling or theyโll tend to prefer to whistle. Indian ringneck male start to develop their telltale ring around 17 months and can take up to 2 molts to come in dark, bright and thick.
