THE LIFE OF YAKUB BHANA
YAKUB BHANA AS ALL OF YOU WOULD KNOW HIM AS “BHANA” HE WAS BORIN IN INDIA ON THE 12TH OF July 1950. He then migrated to Barbados at the age of 12yrs old and attended the Barbados Academy known as (Rudder school). After School he started working in the hotel industry, just to name a few, the Buccaneer Hotel, Colony Club and a few others. He was then married at the age of 19t
h in 1969, to his wife Amina Bhana and had four wonderful children who all married and settled. He then started his own salesman business with his wife Amina until he open his own business (Store) “Foam Unlimited” in sp/town, as he thought there was a demand/need for foams to cut and pillow etc. in Speightown, after a few months he started to include other items which became easier to the people of Speightown, we then decided to change the name to BHANA’S the everything store, for which our customers to this day will tell you… we do have almost everything at Bhana’s.. this was located in the Griffith Building (this is where the bakery is now) in 1986 to 2006 almost 20 years. Bhana decided to move to Bridgetown and sent out leaflets informing his dedicated customers about the move, we were taken by great surprise at the response of our customers at the regrets of our moving…. Edwards of Eddies Supermarket approached Mr. Bhana (my husband) about a building which was still under repairs, so we could stay in Speightown, then Jenny Redman also approach us about a building that was empty which we took. Bhana took Jenny’s offer and because of his dedication to his customers he decided to stay in Speightown until 6years ago… we then move to our present location, if the previous (then) landlord would have allowed us to do some of our own renovation we would have still be in Church Street. As of today our customers still miss us from church Street. Bhana had a great sense of humor and had a very special connection with his customers and was on a first name with many of them… he had a special way of doing business his customers always left smiling…..
