Guide to on-page search engine optimization:

One of the chief ways to optimize your website for users and search is to target a specific theme – represented in a unique keyword or phrase on each individual page. The keyword you are targeting for each page should be found in the page’s title tag, description tag, H1 tag, and body copy.

The keyword should also appear in the URL and internal or inbound links pointing to the page. Images on the page should support the theme and their filenames and alt attribute tags should be thematic, too, where natural.

All of this is easier said than done. There are several challenges with proper on-page optimization. It is time consuming and influenced by a wide range of very specific parameters and best practices. But it is important to get these elements “right.” This white paper offers tips and a template to help establish a useful foundation for your on-page optimization efforts.

Google Ads updates cryptocurrency ad policies:

In a changelog update today, Google Ads announced updates to the scope and requirements for cryptocurrency ads to be allowed on the platform. Starting August 3, crypto exchange and wallet advertisers must meet new requirements and be certified by Google in order to be eligible to advertise on the platform.

New policies. Financial advertisers will need to check the following boxes to be able to advertise on Google Ads:

Be duly registered with
(a) FinCEN as a Money Services Business and with at least one state as a money transmitter; or
(b) a federal or state-chartered bank entity.
Comply with relevant legal requirements, including any local legal requirements, whether at a state or federal level.
Ensure their ads and landing pages comply with all Google Ads policies
Your existing certs will be revoked. Any previously approved Cryptocurrency Exchange certifications will be revoked as of August 3. Advertisers will need to request new Cryptocurrency Exchanges and Wallets certification with Google Ads.

The new certification application form will be published on July 8, 2021.

Restrictions still exist. While exchanges and wallets will be able to advertise in Google Ads after meeting the above requirements, the following ad types will not be approved:

Ads for initial coin offerings, DeFi trading protocols, or otherwise promoting the purchase, sale, or trade of cryptocurrencies or related products
Ad destinations that aggregate or compare issuers of cryptocurrencies or related products
Crypto advertising changes are not new. Google has recently gone back and forth with policies around ads for crypto exchanges and wallets. In early 2018, Google originally banned crypto advertising, but rolled back that ban later in the same year, “allowing for crypto exchanges to become certified advertisers on the platform for the U.S. and Japanese markets,” said Michael McSweeney for The Block.

Why we care. If you’re a crypto advertiser, mark your calendar for July 8 when the new application form goes live. If you miss the deadline for getting your updated exchange certification, your ads will be removed from Google.

13 Interesting Facebook Tricks You Might Not Know:

Here are 13 ways to change it up, tone it down, and customize the platform to get the most out of it.

1. Pin A List-Builder to the Top of Your page
It’s said that organic page reach is declining – and this is sadly quite true, for the most part.

However, there are still ways you can “hack” your page to give those endless scrollers something to pause, stop and engage with.

One way is to pin a post about a free ebook, guide, challenge, video, etc. at the top of your page. That way, anyone that interacts with your page will see it.

You’ll be able to build your list on a regular basis just from the occasional page traffic because you optimized your pinned post with a list-builder.

Win, win!

2. Turn Facebook Into LinkedIn
Yes, you heard me right! Make your Facebook profile a place to network, connect with, learn from, and prospect with other humans.

This is a little-known, rarely applied hack that equals big success. Prepare to connect with, engage with, and be open to new connections outside friends and family on Facebook.

Early in 2020, I decided to switch how I posted on Facebook. I began to write and share business stories that positioned me with my audience and allowed them to see what I did as an entrepreneur and relate to it.

This was the best decision I’ve made in how I use Facebook. Thousands of dollars in income and sales have now come from connections on Facebook messaging me about my business after one of these posts.

10 Elements of Good SEO Copy:

SEO is a huge driver of business success. After all, when you appear in search with content that resonates with readers, it helps increase visibility, drives traffic, and boosts conversion rates.

And yet so many people struggle with actually writing good content for SEO.

There was a time when the way to get Google’s attention was by filling content with keywords that might match what people were searching for online.

SEO was less about creating content people could use and more about appealing to Google’s algorithms.

Today, SEO has shifted from writing for machines to writing for people.

By creating useful, engaging content, businesses can more effectively meet the needs of their audience and generate leads and sales growth.

Let’s learn how.
10 Essential Elements for Stellar SEO Copy
Although SEO is ever-changing, with some adaptability and research you can stay in touch with consumers’ expectations and how they’re driving Google’s algorithms.

This will help you create quality content that your users (and search engines) will appreciate.

When writing for SEO, keep these ten content standards in mind.

1. Nail Meta Content
Meta content is like the content teaser you find on the back cover of a book.

It gives readers a sneak peek about what they can expect to find inside.

It can also be the deciding factor in whether the reader will continue to dive in, or put it back on the shelf and reach for something else.

Sometimes, developing great SEO content is simply a matter of developing fresh meta information.

Good meta should follow these rules:

Maximize Your Characters.

Get the most out of this prime real estate. While information should be short and sweet, use all the space you can to draw the reader in.

A great meta description will fall between 50-155 characters before it runs the risk of being shortened by Google. Share as much information as you can to entice the reader to click on your information.

Make It Actionable.

Remember the old circus barkers who would yell, “Ladies and gentlemen, step right up! Don’t miss the greatest show on Earth!”

Channel them when you craft your meta content. This is your opportunity to invite people to see what you have to offer. It should be direct, motivating, and drive people to act.

Incorporate Your Focus Keyword.

When the meta description contains the search keyword, Google is more likely to feature it in the search listings. This makes your link more appealing to users and increases the likelihood they’ll click on it and visit your page.

2. Write for Both People & Machines
You know that saying, “If mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy?”

That’s the relationship between consumers and search engines.

If the users aren’t happy, then neither is Google.

In today’s SEO rules, people come first.

By writing content that meets their specific needs and resonates with them, they’ll enjoy a much more satisfying experience.

This reflects well on search engines because they provided the most relevant information possible.

That’s why content that pleases readers also boosts SEO and drives SERPs.

So when you write for people first, you’re simultaneously writing for the machine.

To guide users through your sales funnel, you must deliver content that people want to read.

3. Provide Value
This leads us to our next point: SEO success hangs heavily on the fact that you provide your readers with something of value.

People turn to the internet for two reasons: they have a problem that needs a solution, or they have a question that needs an answer.

Your mission is to provide that solution or deliver that answer.

For optimal positioning in the SERPs, you must write valuable, in-depth content that eases your readers’ pain.

People are actively seeking reliable resources on the web and chances are, you’re not the only business offering your solution.

To grab (and keep) your readers’ attention, you must create compelling, informative content every time.

The more value you provide, the more trust you’ll build, and the deeper relationship you can establish.

This can bring more leads, more revenue, and a stronger online presence.

Tip: The more resources you can provide your users, the better their experience will be. When writing content, include images, relevant long-tail keywords, and user reviews to set yourself apart from your competition.

4. Tell a Good Story
Storytellers have been drawing in audiences for centuries.

When you approach content writing as a storyteller, you can capture reader attention and bring them closer to your brand.

Consider these elements of storytelling when writing for SEO.

The reader is the protagonist. Even as a kid, we loved being the hero of our bedtime stories. When you write a story with the reader in mind, they’re more invested in the outcome. Engage your audience by writing for them.

Everyone loves suspense. Think about how the cliffhanger ending of a good chapter makes you turn the page. When you hint at what’s around the corner but don’t reveal everything up front, you compel people to keep consuming your content.

And THEN what happened? Every story needs a climactic turning point that takes the reader in an unexpected direction. Write content that includes some surprises along the way.

Write for your brand. Remember that the ultimate reason for your SEO content is to attract people to your brand. Don’t get so wrapped up in your story that you forget your main purpose.

5. Write Powerful Headlines
You’ve done a great job creating useful content that readers would love, and Google has rewarded you with good search rankings.

But for some reason, you’re not getting any clicks.

What gives?

Take a close look at your headlines. Chances are, they’re not enticing people to read your content.

It’s easy to get so wrapped up in perfecting the meat of your content that you neglect optimizing its headlines as well.

But keep in mind, when your articles show up in Google’s search listings, they’re going to be listed among dozens of others.

You have to stand out from the crowd, and a powerful headline is the way to do that.

10 Elements of Good SEO Copy

Headlines are the first impression people have about your content.

If your headline isn’t compelling, then they’ll assume your content isn’t, either.

Create powerful headlines to boost click-through rates and gain more viewership.

Tip: I’m a big fan of the Advanced Marketing Institute Headline Analyzer. I’ve noticed that blogs whose titles rank 40-50% on their scale outperform all others.

6. Refrain from Keyword Stuffing
In the early days of SEO content development, keyword stuffing was a thing.

Google’s algorithms relied heavily on how many keyword matches a page could provide, so writers would cram as many keywords into the content as possible.

Often, there wasn’t any rhyme or reason to them. Sure, they didn’t make sense in the context of the article, but they were in there!

Thankfully, now that there’s a greater emphasis on useful content, this abuse of keywords isn’t as prevalent. However, keyword stuffing still exists – just not the way it once did.

It’s crucial to keep your readers front of mind when developing your SEO content.

What would they find most useful?

In today’s SEO, relevance is most important. Keywords can be used to help deliver valuable content.

7. Increase Readability
Part of creating a positive user experience is writing content that can be easily read.

Readability plays a big role in user engagement. If someone encounters huge blocks of non-stop text, chances are they’re going to bounce.

Keep readers engaged by increasing your content’s readability.

We live in a “skimming” society where people don’t want to invest their time reading content that doesn’t bring value.

Format SEO content with shorter sentences. Break up long paragraphs. Use headers, bulleted lists, and white space to compel readers onward.

The easier your content is to read, the more likely users are to consume it in its entirety.

8. Incorporate Multimedia
Not only do you want to create material that people want to read, but it must be easy to digest.

It should be highly engaging and encourage visitors to stay on your site for longer periods of time.

This allows you to build more meaningful relationships with your audience while boosting your SERPs.

A great way to achieve this is by incorporating multimedia into your SEO content.

Videos, photos, infographics, and diagrams are a visually stimulating way to deliver educational information.

They help to capture your audience’s attention and make your material more memorable.

Multimedia posts are also more likely to be shared by your viewers.

How many times have you received a video or image in an email forwarded by your friends and family?

People love to share engaging content. Use this to your advantage.

9. Include Social Share Buttons
Speaking of sharing information, one of the easiest and most effective ways to promote content sharing is through social media.

Social networks have changed the way people interact on a daily basis.

Direct messaging, real-time commenting, and reaction emojis feed into our society’s desire for instant feedback and communication.

By including social share buttons in your SEO content, you’re not only connecting with your audience by bringing content to the places where they spend their time.

You make it easy for them to pass your information along to their own social contacts.

Social share icons are buttons on your page that typically create an automatic Facebook status or Tweet when readers click on them.

This takes all the work out of your audience having to draft their own post. They can simply share your message with the click of a button.

This can broaden your reach exponentially and attract a whole new audience of like-minded consumers who may also be interested in what you have to offer.

10. Track Your Progress
The only way to gauge the effectiveness of your SEO content strategy is to track its progress.

Metrics are key to revealing what aspects of your plan are working and what needs improvement.

If you’re not monitoring your results, you’ll have no way of knowing where you are in meeting your goals.

There are tons of useful tools available to help track your progress.

From providing relevant keywords to checking for duplicate content, there are lots of ways to ensure your SEO content is effective and resonating with your audience.

Facebook blocks Trump for remainder of term while Twitter sets permanent ban:-

Last Wednesday, America went through surreal times when a large group of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol after the President posted numerous social media posts on Twitter and Facebook inciting action from those supporters.

Facebook has blocked President Donald Trump from posting on its platform for the remainder of his term as President of the United States. Twitter initially set a 12-hour temporary action of blocking Trump from posting on its platform with a warning that the company may permanently disable his account. On Friday, they updated their statement to ban Trump’s account permanently.

The announcements. Here is Twitter’s post about the temporary ban and warning of future action:

They updated their statement Friday to ban Trump permanently.

Facebook initially put a 24-hour ban in for Trump but then later decided to block Trump through his term. Here is the statement from Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook.

Advertisers pausing accounts. Some advertisers are reportedly pausing their advertising campaigns with Facebook and Twitter during these times. Jonathan Kagan, VP of Search, Cogniscient Media|9Rooftops, told us, “We advised our clients that there was so much coverage of the situation, running into a brand safety scenario, or coming off as tone deaf/insensitive to the situation in DC would be inevitable. To avoid possible brand association, we recommend they temporarily cease paid social ads.”

Google Ads announces privacy-focused changes for Analytics, Tag Manager and enhanced conversions:

In a Google Marketing Livestream preview announcement of upcoming product launches, Vidhya Srinivasan, Vice President of Engineering at Google Ads, wrote about machine learning in Google Analytics, consent mode for Tag Manager, and enhanced conversions with first-party data.

Machine learning extended to behavioral analytics in Google Analytics. Google announced GA4 last year which includes conversion modeling to help close measurement gaps and get better insights into customer behavioral analytics data as privacy becomes more of a concern for users. In today’s announcement, Google said they are extending their advanced machine learning to behavioral analytics reporting in GA.

“For example, in User Acquisition reports, if there’s a gap in the number of new users a campaign has acquired, we’ll now use modeling to help fill that gap. With or without cookies, this feature will help marketers enhance their understanding of the customer journey across their apps and websites,” wrote Srinivasan.

Adjust Consent Mode in Google Tag Manager. Consent mode helps advertisers in Europe and the UK adjust how Google tags users based on their individual consent status. If a user does not consent to the use of cookies, Consent Mode uses conversion modeling to help marketers measure the customer decision journey instead.

“To make it easier for their website to integrate with Consent Mode, we’ll soon allow access directly from Tag Manager accounts where they’ll be able to modify and customize tag behavior in response to users’ consent preferences,” said Google’s Vice President of Engineering in the announcement today.

Enhanced conversions help preserve measurement in lieu of cookies. When cookies aren’t available, first-party and consented data can help fill in the measurement gaps.

“Enhanced conversions allow tags to use consented, first-party data and give a more accurate view of how users convert after engaging with ads. Marketers will also be able to get the data they need to unlock performance insights, like conversion lift, and improve measurement in cases when their ad is shown on one device and the user converts on another. The data is always hashed to protect user privacy and ensure security,” according to the Google blog.

More details about these products and features as well as announcements about new solutions happen May 27 at Google Marketing Livestream.

Why we care. With the ongoing conversation around privacy for users and maintaining targeting and measurement accuracy for advertisers, these solutions from Google Ads attempt to preserve user data while ensuring that search marketers have the best information to improve and adjust their campaigns.

More Facebook Ads bugs unnerve advertisers ahead of Black Friday, Cyber Monday:

Facebook Ads has earned a reputation for being particularly glitchy and unpredictable. Over the past 12 to 18 hours, many advertisers experienced issues with temporary ad disapprovals and accounts being disabled.

“This is the second widespread bug that we’ve seen impact Facebook campaigns in the last 4 weeks. The most recent bug caused multiple accounts (across various verticals) to receive ad disapprovals starting around 6pm Central Time yesterday,” Zenia Johnson, account lead at performance agency 3Q Digital, told Search Engine Land Friday.

Another agency I spoke with Friday morning said roughly 10 to 20% of its client accounts experienced issues last night.

Facebook confirmed the problem at 11:15 p.m. EDT Thursday. “There was a technical issue that caused some FB ads & ad accounts to be mistakenly disabled,” Rob Leathern, Facebook director of product management, said on Twitter. “We identified and resolved the issues within a couple of hours, and access should be restored.”

“Account access should be restored. Some ad rejections may still take some time to run through the system – should be sorted out soon however,” Leathern added in a reply.

Opening a door to other channels?
The ongoing platform problems have some social media buyers looking at alternative channels. Clients are starting to prioritize channel diversification, noted Johnson.

“It’s a good time to start testing other traffic sources,” said Adomas Pranevicius at Lastclick.media, adding that he’s looking at Pinterest Ads. Snapchat also stands to gain from advertisers concerned about the stability of the Facebook Ads platform.

Snapchat and Pinterest have been investing in direct response ad solutions and both reported strong revenue growth for the third quarter. Snapchat revenue increased 52% year-over-year to $679 million, and Pinterest revenues grew 58% year-over-year to $442 million. That’s far (far) shy of Facebook’s ad revenues for the quarter, which totaled more than $21 billion, but the growth suggests advertiser appetite for diversifying.

Pinterest cited its brand safety appeal on its third-quarter earnings call, hinting perhaps that it benefited from the Facebook Ads boycott, “[W]e continue to benefit from marketers who are prioritizing positivity and brand safety,” said Pinterest CFO Todd Morgenfeld. “Advertisers tell us that Pinterest is brand safe relative to other consumer internet platforms. And we’ve benefited from this in Q3.”

But the relative instability of the Facebook Ads platform might also play a role in driving Pinterest and Snapchat advertising growth.

Meanwhile, back on Facebook, “[T]his definitely makes the case for advertisers getting well-ahead of ad builds as we get closer to Black Friday and Cyber Monday,” said Johnson.
