BISF holds its first talk on the Afghanistan issue yesterday, 27 August 2021. We highlight few key points that came up during the discussion below along with the recording. There are many valuable information and key points you can find in the recording.
BISF warmly thanks Dr. Delwar Hossain, Professor, Department of International Relations, Dhaka University and Dr. Sujit Kumar Datta, Chairman and Associate Professor, Department of International Relations, Chittagong University for their valuable contribution.
Some key points that came up during the discussion:
a) A great power’s departure and another dominant influence coming to Afghanistan, but the question remains: will this bring anything better for the mass people of Afghanistan?
b) Taliban's are saying people, particularly girls, will get access to the education, but the point here is not only the education, it is more about the quality of education and the type of education.
c) It will not be wise to call Afghan conflict a diplomatic failure for the west. Rather, it’s a reality and there are many phenomena that need to be realised to analyse the diplomatic position of the west.
d) US vice President’s visit to Asia at this point could be a strategy to show the world that US still priorities Asia and issues like south china sea, Korean peninsula, China’s growing influence remains at the top for US policy for Asia. It could also be an initiative to reassure US allies in Asia that US still stands as a trusted partner for them.
