Bangladesh–Hong Kong Strengthen Investment Ties

Bangladesh and Hong Kong have signed an Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (IPPA), opening new opportunities for bilateral investment and stronger economic cooperation.

The agreement is expected to strengthen investor protection, boost investment flows, and create new opportunities across key sectors.

Bangladesh has made significant progress in easing trade barriers with the European Union, resolving 48 non-tariff issues, while 13 additional matters remain under discussion.

Following a meeting with an EU delegation in Dhaka, Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir said the government is continuing its efforts to simplify trade procedures, address existing challenges, and strengthen market access for Bangladeshi businesses.

Bangladesh has also requested EU support for a three-year extension of its LDC graduation timeline. At the same time, discussions on a potential Bangladesh–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) are moving forward, with formal negotiations expected to begin in the near future.

🇧🇩 NEW IMPORT POLICY ORDER 2026–2029

Bangladesh | Key Changes & Trade Facilitation

Bangladesh has introduced a new Import Policy Order 2026–2029, bringing important changes designed to liberalize trade, facilitate investment, and strengthen export competitiveness.

🔹 Greater Import & Payment Flexibility
• USD 500,000 annual ceiling removed for certain non-LC commercial imports
• Expanded scope for non-LC transactions

🔹 Export-Oriented Industries
• Greater flexibility for raw materials and production inputs
• Increased RMG sample allowance: 10 → 15 pieces per design

🔹 Domestic Value Addition
• Stronger product-specific value-addition requirements
• Greater focus on local production and competitiveness

🔹 Modern Trade Infrastructure
• Free Trade Zones (FTZs)
• Central Bonded Warehouses (CBWs)

🔹 NRB Investment Facilitation
• Improved import facilities for eligible NRB-owned industrial establishments

🔹 Preferential Trade Arrangements
• Support for FTA, PTA, CEPA, EPA and other trade frameworks

🔹 Responsible & Compliant Trade
Trade liberalization does not remove regulatory requirements, including HS Code, sanctions screening, customs documentation and other applicable approvals.

রোমে “Made In Bangladesh Expo™ – Italy Edition 2026” উপলক্ষে Meet the Press অনুষ্ঠিত

রোম, ইতালি: আসন্ন Made in Bangladesh Expo™ – Italy Edition 2026 উপলক্ষে ইতালির রাজধানী রোমে এক Meet the Press ও Community Engagement Session অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে। অনুষ্ঠানে ইতালিতে বসবাসরত বাংলাদেশি ব্যবসায়ী, কমিউনিটি নেতৃবৃন্দ, উদ্যোক্তা, সাংবাদিক এবং বিভিন্ন সংগঠনের প্রতিনিধিরা অংশগ্রহণ করেন।

অনুষ্ঠানে Made in Bangladesh Expo™ – Italy Edition 2026-এর লক্ষ্য, উদ্দেশ্য, সম্ভাবনা এবং কর্মপরিকল্পনা তুলে ধরা হয়। বক্তারা বলেন, এই আন্তর্জাতিক প্রদর্শনী বাংলাদেশের শিল্প, উৎপাদন, উদ্ভাবন, রপ্তানি সক্ষমতা এবং বিনিয়োগ সম্ভাবনাকে ইতালি ও বৃহত্তর ইউরোপীয় বাজারে তুলে ধরার একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ প্ল্যাটফর্ম হিসেবে কাজ করবে।

অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন Md. Liton Ahmed, Founder & Chairman, Made in Bangladesh Expo Ltd এবং Chairman ,Global Trade Promotion Counsil of Bangladesh

তিনি তাঁর বক্তব্যে বলেন,

"বাংলাদেশ ও ইতালির মধ্যে বাণিজ্য ও বিনিয়োগ সহযোগিতার ব্যাপক সম্ভাবনা রয়েছে। Made in Bangladesh Expo™ – Italy Edition 2026 বাংলাদেশের পণ্য, সেবা এবং বিনিয়োগ সম্ভাবনাকে ইউরোপীয় বাজারে আরও শক্তিশালীভাবে উপস্থাপন করবে। একই সঙ্গে এটি বাংলাদেশি উদ্যোক্তা, রপ্তানিকারক, বিনিয়োগকারী এবং প্রবাসী ব্যবসায়ীদের জন্য নতুন ব্যবসায়িক সুযোগ সৃষ্টি করবে।"

তিনি আরও বলেন, ইতালিতে বসবাসরত বাংলাদেশি প্রবাসীরা দুই দেশের মধ্যে একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অর্থনৈতিক সেতুবন্ধন হিসেবে কাজ করছেন। তাদের অবদান ইতালির অর্থনীতি এবং বাংলাদেশের উন্নয়ন—উভয় ক্ষেত্রেই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখছে।

অনুষ্ঠানে বক্তারা আশা প্রকাশ করেন যে, এই এক্সপোর মাধ্যমে বাংলাদেশ ও ইতালির মধ্যে দ্বিপাক্ষিক বাণিজ্য, বিনিয়োগ, প্রযুক্তি সহযোগিতা এবং ব্যবসায়িক অংশীদারিত্ব আরও সম্প্রসারিত হবে। পাশাপাশি ইতালিতে বসবাসরত বাংলাদেশি কমিউনিটির সক্রিয় অংশগ্রহণ দুই দেশের অর্থনৈতিক সম্পর্ককে আরও শক্তিশালী করবে।

উপস্থিত ব্যবসায়ী ও কমিউনিটি নেতৃবৃন্দ এক্সপো সফল করতে সর্বাত্মক সহযোগিতার আশ্বাস প্রদান করেন এবং ইতালির বিভিন্ন অঞ্চলে ব্যবসায়িক অংশগ্রহণ নিশ্চিত করার লক্ষ্যে একযোগে কাজ করার অঙ্গীকার ব্যক্ত করেন।

উল্লেখ্য, Made in Bangladesh Expo™ – Italy Edition 2026 আগামী ২–৪ অক্টোবর ২০২৬ ইতালির Salaria Sport Village, Rome-এ অনুষ্ঠিত হওয়ার পরিকল্পনা রয়েছে। প্রদর্শনীতে বাংলাদেশ ও ইতালির ব্যবসায়ী, বিনিয়োগকারী, আমদানিকারক, রপ্তানিকারক, চেম্বার অব কমার্স, ট্রেড অ্যাসোসিয়েশন এবং নীতিনির্ধারকদের অংশগ্রহণের প্রত্যাশা করা হচ্ছে।
