MayDay, also known as International Workers' Day commemorates the labor movement and struggles of workers all around the world. It traces back to the Haymarket Affair, where workers demanded reasonable wages, working hours and safer environment. Today, it stands as a symbol of unity, ensuring dignity and justice for all workers.
May Day stands as a reminder of the people who quietly keep everything running in our country. From early morning streets to busy factories and construction sites, their hard work is part of our everyday life, which often goes unnoticed but is always essential. Even our economy relies on garmentsl workers, as RMG contributes around 80% of export earnings of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Labour Act 2006 was passed twenty years ago from now. it was later strengthened with amendments after the Rana Plaza Tragedy in 2013.
And thus let's value the working class's contribution and provide them with deserved respect. Remember, a stronger and happier nation is built when every worker is treated with fairness and dignity.
Happy May Day to everyone.
