A student from Balochistan has earned international recognition for turning banana waste into sustainable fibre.

Mohammad Sarfraz of BUITEMS, Quetta, won the Discover Natural Fibre Initiative Award at a global competition held during the Heimtextil expo in Frankfurt.

His four-year research focuses on extracting high-quality fibre from banana stems, offering an eco-friendly alternative for textiles.

The project has attracted interest from European companies, with plans underway to market products abroad.

Experts say the innovation can create jobs, reduce poverty, cut pollution, and generate foreign exchange, highlighting the global potential of Pakistan’s young researchers.

Bangladesh has launched its first government-run freelancer ID management software to ensure secure, transparent, and harassment-free verification for freelancers. The free digital ID system will help freelancers access banking services, loans, training, and incentives. Managed by the ICT Division, the platform uses dedicated engineers, completed VAPT testing, and will also serve as a national freelancer database to support future policymaking.
