Watched a farmer on TV stressing over his unsold produce in Gaibandha, the same vegetables being sold for a very high price in Dhaka. His bewildered look and broken voice compelled us to do something soon, something that might help the relevant actors and policy makers to make the right calls in order to keep the nationwide supply chain running smoothly. For the sake of the farmers, and for the sake of the consumers missing out on important nutrients.
As a first step, Nexel Research Ltd. in collaboration with Part II, who share a similar vision and had initiated the project, have conducted a rapid assessment looking at the current situation of vegetable farmers with harvest-ready crops in their fields, and also urban consumers who are finding it hard to avail these products in Dhaka.
This report informs on some focal points faced by the two groups and puts forth an interesting and worthwhile array of scopes for future studies.
