Issue Utilization Declaration (UD) and Utilization Permission (UP) as entrusted by the Government. Promotes safety and sustainability practices among Member Factories. Runs Skills Development Programs to enhance productivity in the industry

Collaborates with Government, IFC, GIZ, SIDA and other development partners in running different programs to promote better environmental practices in the factories. Operate free hospitals, health centers and schools for the workers and their children. Runs a BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology to produce skilled professionals for the apparel industry

BGMEA Vice President Barrister Vidiya Amrit Khan attended the dialogue “Industrial Decarbonisation in the RMG Sector: How to Take it Forward?”, organised by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) on 16 August 2026 at BRAC Centre Inn, Dhaka.

Speaking as a Special Guest, Ms. Vidiya Amrit Khan stressed that the transition to renewable energy has become essential for the future of the garment sector. She argued that taxation and energy policies must encourage, rather than discourage, investment in renewable energy. She also called for global brands to share the financial responsibility of the transition with manufacturers.

She also stressed the need for renewable energy to meet the EU regulatory obligations for continuing exports smoothly into the EU, like CSDDD, ESPR, DPP etc.

Fazlee Shamim Ehsan, Executive President of BKMEA; Mostafa Al Mahmud, President, Bangladesh Sustainable and Renewable Energy Association (BSREA); Shamim Munir Uddin, Director – Program Evidence & Learning, Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Bangladesh and Mr Asif Shahriar, Senior Assistant Vice President, SHS Program, Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) also spoke at the dialogue which was moderated by Dr Khondaker Golam Moazzem, Research Director, CPD.

The discussion underscored that Bangladesh’s RMG decarbonisation cannot be achieved through a single technology or policy measure. A faster transition will require coordinated action on renewable energy, energy-efficient technology, financing, taxation, regulation and shared responsibility across the supply chain.

A delegation led by Dr. Mohammad Bakhtiar Rana, Associate Professor at Aalborg University Business School, Denmark, recently met with BGMEA Vice President Ms. Vidiya Amrit Khan at the BGMEA Complex in Dhaka.

The discussion focused on the progress of the CREATE (Circular Economy in Bangladesh’s Garments Industry) Project, its emerging findings, and opportunities to further accelerate the circular economy transition of Bangladesh’s RMG sector through research, industry collaboration, and evidence-based approaches.

Vidiya Amrit Khan said that Bangladesh’s apparel industry has made significant progress in sustainability, and the transition towards a circular economy is the next important frontier. Research, innovation, and strong collaboration between industry, academia, and other stakeholders on a platform like CREATE will be crucial in developing practical and scalable solutions.

CREATE is a research and capacity-building project funded by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Denmark (DANIDA). This is the first multi-stakeholder research project on circular economy in the apparel industry led by Aalborg University Business School, Aalborg University (AAU), Denmark, in partnership with different stakeholders including BGMEA.

The main objective of this project is to investigate the circular economy transition in global apparel value chains linked with Bangladesh’s apparel industry and develop effective policies.

Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, Director of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), represented BGMEA at the Board Meeting of the STAR Network held on 13 August 2026 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The meeting, attended by Board Members representing STAR’s member associations, discussed the network’s implementation progress, strategic priorities, regional cooperation and future areas of collaboration.

Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, who also serves as a Board Member of the STAR Network, delivered an insightful presentation providing an overview of the evolving global trade and industrial landscape, with a special focus on Bangladesh’s ready-made garment industry.

In his presentation, he highlighted recent positive developments in Bangladesh, including post-election policy initiatives and a business-friendly approach aimed at facilitating industrial growth through improved logistics and ease of doing business.

He also highlighted BGMEA’s continued efforts towards sustainability and decarbonisation, reflecting the Bangladesh apparel industry’s commitment to responsible manufacturing and its transition towards a greener and more sustainable future.

The STAR Network (Sustainable Textiles of the Asian Region) is an alliance of garment producer associations from Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Myanmar, Pakistan and Vietnam, working together to promote sustainability, innovation and responsible growth in the textile and apparel industry. BGMEA is a member of the network.

আজ, (১২ আগস্ট ২০২৬), কাঞ্চন রানী দত্ত, অতিরিক্ত কমিশনার, কাস্টমস বন্ড কমিশনারেট, ঢাকা (উত্তর)-এর সভাপতিত্বে ইউডি যাচাই ও সহায়ক কমিটির সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। সভায় বিজিএমইএ’র পক্ষে প্রতিনিধিত্ব করেন সংগঠনটির পরিচালক Kazi Mizanur Rahman।

সভায় কাজী মিজানুর রহমান ইউডি অডিট ও যাচাই কার্যক্রম পরিচালনার সময় পোশাক রপ্তানিকারক প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলো যাতে কোনো ধরনের হয়রানির শিকার না হয়, সে বিষয়ে সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্তৃপক্ষের প্রতি আহ্বান জানান।

তিনি বলেন, বর্তমানে দেশের তৈরি পোশাক শিল্প একটি কঠিন সময় অতিক্রম করছে। বৈশ্বিক বাজারের বিভিন্ন চ্যালেঞ্জের পাশাপাশি শিল্পের উদ্যোক্তারা নানা ধরনের চাপের মধ্যে রয়েছেন। এ সময়ে ইউডি যাচাই বা অডিট কার্যক্রমের নামে কোনো ধরনের অযাচিত হয়রানি বা জটিলতা সৃষ্টি হলে তা পোশাক শিল্পের ওপর নেতিবাচক প্রভাব ফেলতে পারে।

তিনি ব্যবসাবান্ধব ও সহযোগিতামূলক পরিবেশে ইউডি যাচাই কার্যক্রম পরিচালনার ওপর গুরুত্বারোপ করেন, যাতে একদিকে প্রয়োজনীয় তদারকি ও নিয়মনীতি অনুসরণ নিশ্চিত হয় এবং অন্যদিকে রপ্তানিমুখী পোশাক শিল্পের স্বাভাবিক কার্যক্রম ব্যাহত না হয়।

𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐛𝐲 𝐁𝐆𝐌𝐄𝐀 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐏𝐏

BGMEA and LPP issue the following joint statement regarding the ongoing dispute involving claims made by two business entities in connection with invoice to FES Retail. BGMEA and LPP shared intention to ensure legal certainty, employee safety and stable business promotion and cooperation in Bangladesh.

The matter currently discussed publicly concerns alleged unpaid liabilities arising from contracts and invoices to which LPP is not a debtor and is not the party legally obliged to make payment. LPP confirms that it settles its own obligations towards its direct suppliers and business partners in Bangladesh on an ongoing basis and in accordance with the applicable contractual terms.

BGMEA takes note of LPP's position that the claims should be addressed to the entities that incurred the relevant obligations. Both parties recognize that the affected factories in a difficult commercial situation and agree that any discussion regarding settlement of those liabilities should be conducted with the party legally responsible for them, with LPP supporting a constructive dialogue where appropriate and without prejudice to its legal position.

LPP further confirms that the recent review of certain sourcing activities in Bangladesh was prompted by the need to protect its local employees, ensure legal certainty and maintain a stable, predictable and fair environment for business operations. This review was not directed against manufacturers and does not affect LP's commitment to honor all of its own direct contractual obligations.

BGMEA and LPP agree that the interests of the broader Bangladeshi apparel sector, including the
more than 350 manufacturers currently engaged in business with LPP, should not be adversely affected by a dispute involving a limited number of third-party relationships. Both parties therefore consider it important to avoid broad public narratives that could harm uninvolved manufacturers, employees or the long-standing commercial relationship between LPP and Bangladesh.

BGMEA will engage with relevant ministries, authorities and industry stakeholders to support a fair and orderly process, including protection of LPP officials and employees from undue harassment, pressure or unfounded proceedings. This statement is made without prejudice to the independence of lawful proceedings and without limiting the right of any party to pursue legitimate claims against the entity legally responsible for the relevant obligations.

BGMEA and LPP reaffirm their longstanding partnership and shared commitment to the growth of business and sustainability of Bangladesh's apparel sector. Both organizations pledge to work together to ensure secure, stable, and uninterrupted business operations in Bangladesh while supporting a fair, transparent, and mutually acceptable resolution of the ongoing matter.

BGMEA Vice President Ms. Vidiya Amrit Khan participated as a panelist in the high-level programme “Building Bangladesh a Trillion-Dollar Climate-Resilient Economy: Accelerating Climate Finance Mobilisation through Designing Strategic & Investment-Ready Climate Projects,” held on 6 August 2026 at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Dhaka.

During the panel discussion, Ms. Vidiya Amrit Khan highlighted the importance of accessible and affordable climate finance for Bangladesh’s RMG sector, particularly for SMEs, to enable investments in renewable energy, resource efficiency, decarbonisation and climate resilience.

She emphasised that stronger climate action requires practical, investment-ready solutions supported by appropriate financing, technical knowledge and collaboration among industry, financial institutions, development partners and policymakers.

The program featured high-level participation from Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Planning; Dr. Saimum Parvez, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister; Ms. Sarah Cooke, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh; and Ms. Carol Flore-Smereczniak, UN Resident Coordinator a.i. in Bangladesh, among other distinguished participants.

The program was organized by the International Climate Finance Cell (ICFC) of the Economic Relations Division (ERD), Ministry of Finance, under the Bangladesh Climate Development Partnership (BCDP), with technical support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Qingfeng Zhang, Country Director, ADB, joined as Special Guest, while Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky, Secretary, ERD, chaired the program.

BGMEA Secretary General Major General Dr. Md. Shahedul Islam (Retd.) and Mr. Sajjadul Alam, Senior Assistant Secretary also participated in the program.

The wait is finally over! The BGMEA Football Cup is set to take place in December 2026, bringing together the spirit of sportsmanship, teamwork, and camaraderie across the apparel industry.

The announcement came from a meeting of the BGMEA Sports Committee, held today at the BGMEA Complex.

The meeting was chaired by Shah Rayeed Chowdhury, Director-in-Charge of the BGMEA Sports Committee.

The meeting was attended by BGMEA Directors Nafis Ud Doula, Asef Kamal Pasha, and Sakeef Ahmed Salam, along with Sports Committee Chairman Md. Sajjad Ali Khan, Co-Chairman Akbor Haider Munna, Managing Director of Snowtex Group S. M. Khaled, former BGMEA Director Md. Imranur Rahman, Managing Director of Fakir Fashions Fakir Kamruzzaman Nahid, Director of Epyllion Group Junaid Abu Saleh Musa, Director of Apparels Village Limited Mirza Faiyaz Hossain, and Deputy Managing Director of Mosharaf Group Omar Farooq.

The meeting discussed various aspects of organizing the BGMEA Football Cup successfully, including preparations and arrangements to make the tournament an exciting and memorable sporting event for the industry.
