Yesterday, the Nordic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) in Bangladesh, together with the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka, hosted a high-level forum on MPPA & Renewable Energy at Sheraton Dhaka.

The forum spotlighted the upcoming Merchant Power Purchase Agreement (MPPA)—a transformative policy that will enable private investors to generate and sell renewable power directly to customers, bypassing the traditional government-only PPA model. This marks a major shift from the IPP framework and opens new pathways for clean energy investment in Bangladesh.

In his opening remarks, Tanveer Mohammad, President of NCCI, emphasized how a strong MPPA framework is essential for supporting global ESG commitments, particularly for Nordic companies operating in Bangladesh.

Delivering the inaugural address, Håkon Arald Gulbrandsen, Ambassador of Norway to Bangladesh, highlighted MPPA as both an environmental necessity and an economic imperative as Bangladesh moves toward LDC graduation.

We are deeply grateful to our event sponsors—Grameenphone, H&M, and Huawei Bangladesh, for their strong commitment to sustainability and the energy transition. Their support was instrumental in translating critical policy dialogue into practical momentum.

Special thanks to our knowledge partners, International Finance Corporation and Green Energy Transition - Policy Advisory Partnership Project Cofunded by European Union and BMZ, implemented by GIZ Bangladesh in collaboration with Power Division. They have helped us to ground the discussion in real-world policy, finance, and produced technical insights—helping shape a more bankable, transparent, and future-ready MPPA framework.

A meaningful step forward for Bangladesh’s green energy journey. 🌱⚡
