"COVID 19 has magnified the gravity of inequality. Girls and women have been pushed into extreme poverty and marginalization as they have been deprived of basic health care services, education, and economic opportunities. Violence against women and girls have continued to intensify. Be it in a front-line or the one juggling a professional career, or an informal sector worker, women in all facets of life have carried the brunt of time and income poverty in these unprecedented times. As the world comes together to voice against discrimination and inequality, it is instrumental for us as women to show up, stand up and step up for what we believe in. Be it for us as a career professional, or a home maker, its essential that we recognize our rights, our value, and roles and responsibilities to thrive as a human and a change-maker. Be it in our personal lives, or influencing positive changes in society, we must take a stand on equality, by educating ourselves, by practicing what we preach and to unite not just for us and other women, but towards overcoming every kind of discrimination prevalent against humanity."

Begum Rokeya was a writer, educationist, and pioneering feminist activist who advocated for women's rights in the Indian subcontinent during British rule. She challenged all barriers put up by a society that obstructed women from pursuing their dreams.

At that time, it was beyond imagination for anyone to think so. But, she had the vision and passion for the emancipation of Bengali Muslim women. Through her influential writings, she showed how Islam's misinterpretation and a deep-seated patriarchal mindset in society combined to keep women lag behind.
