Inspira’s Managing Director, Mr. Muntasir Tahmeed Chowdhury, recently joined a panel discussion at the 9th Agro Bangladesh International Expo 2026, where he shared his insights on “Non-Tariff Barriers for Agro-Processed Exports.”

The discussion came at a critical time for Bangladesh’s agro-export sector, as the country prepares for LDC graduation in November 2026 and a more competitive global trade environment ahead.

Speaking on the panel, he highlighted that the sector’s growth potential remains significant, but several structural challenges continue to slow its progress. In particular, he emphasized the need to improve trade facilitation processes, strengthen logistics and cold chain systems, reduce post-harvest losses, address rising freight and energy costs, and accelerate full digital integration through the National Single Window.

He also noted that Bangladesh must look beyond traditional export models by creating value from agro by-products and waste. From mango seeds and peels to fish waste, simple and scalable processing models can help develop new export-ready products, support SME-led clusters, improve farmer incomes, and open doors to niche international markets.

As global buyers place greater importance on reliability, quality, traceability, and timely delivery, strengthening these foundations will be essential for Bangladesh to unlock the next phase of agro-export growth.

Inspira is actively working with its partners and stakeholder networks to facilitate conversations and initiatives that advance innovation, competitiveness, and sustainable value creation across Bangladesh’s agro-processing sector.

Bangladesh's transmission and distribution losses stood at 10.06% in FY2023-24, well above the global benchmark of under 8%. Immediate action to close this gap is essential, as ongoing delays will further drain utility finances, inflate end-user tariffs, and hinder the country’s ability to absorb renewable energy at scale. The existing grid, designed for one-way power flow, is already being outpaced by rooftop solar, rising industrial demand, and a peak load projected to nearly double by 2030.

Expanding electricity access was only Bangladesh's first step. The next challenge is making electricity smarter, more reliable, and cleaner by transforming the analogue network into a digital, two-way, self-healing system.

A timely analysis by Nushin Nawar and Ashraf Al-Khalique, Research Assistants at Inspira, maps the structural gaps in Bangladesh's current grid, the policy momentum building around smart infrastructure, and what phased, financeable modernization would actually look like in practice.

Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (Level 4) Standards Review Workshop

Inspira participated in the review of Competency Standards (CS) and Course Accreditation Document (CAD) for the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (Level 4) occupation under the Light Engineering Sector, facilitated by the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) in collaboration with GIZ Bangladesh under the Skills4SE project.

The workshop convened stakeholders from industry, academia, and technical domains to validate the competency framework for Level 4 RAC technicians. Discussions focused on aligning occupational standards with real-world system requirements, particularly in energy efficiency, installation practices, diagnostics, and lifecycle maintenance.

Dr Nazneen K. Chowdhury, Executive Chairperson (Secretary) of NSDA, attended as Chief Guest, and the session was chaired by Ms. Jesmin Akter, Member (Planning and Standards), Joint Secretary, NSDA.

Inspira ACL’s technical experts contributed domain-specific inputs to strengthen the structure and applicability of the standards. The validated CS and CAD will inform competency-based curricula, assessment benchmarks, and training delivery across institutions.

This engagement reflects continued collaboration under the NSDA and GIZ partnership to advance industry-aligned technical training in Bangladesh’s light engineering sector, with a focus on building a workforce capable of meeting evolving performance and energy efficiency demands.

We have been reading Peter Frankopan's The New Silk Roads, and here is what stood out to us. Frankopan traces how the centre of global power is moving eastward, with Asia reshaping trade, energy flows, and geopolitics through initiatives like the Belt and Road. What struck us most is that he does not frame this as a distant future possibility. He shows it as something already underway, visible in corridors, pipelines, and port agreements that rarely make front-page news but are steadily redrawing the map of global influence.

With continuing disruptions to the Strait of Hormuz affecting global oil supply, our read is that this book has only grown more relevant. His argument that maritime passages, overland corridors, and infrastructure investments are inseparable from power and security has aged remarkably well.

If you work across trade, energy, geopolitical risk, or regional strategy in MENA, Central Asia, South Asia, or the Indo-Pacific, this one belongs on your shelf.

Inspira with Gender Equality in Asia and the Pacific ADB conducts validation workshop on study findings of Mixed-Methods Survey on Women’s Climate-Resilient Livelihoods in Char Communities, Bangladesh.

As part of the ADB’s Adaptive River System Management Project, Inspira joined hands with ADB Gender to understand the realities of climate-resilient livelihood options for women across Bangladesh's Char areas where frequent climate shock disrupt their way of living. After months of fieldwork across six char communities in Sirajganj, Bogura, and Rangpur, the study wrapped up with a findings validation workshop. Participants from government institutions, development partners, NGOs and CSOs, and private sector stakeholders came together to review the evidence and discuss what it means for policy and programming.

The field findings revealed that over 76% of women own no productive assets, only a few has control of their own income, and nearly 80% face barriers accessing markets and government services. Climate shocks make all of this harder, driving up debt, disrupting sanitation, pulling institutions away during crises, and raising the risk of violence at home.

Thereby, the workshop shared understanding of what practical support needs to look like: bringing women into agricultural extension systems, recognising unpaid care and post-harvest work, widening access to flexible seasonal finance, strengthening early warning systems, and making sure training carries through into sustained support.

Findings Sharing Validation Workshop

Today, Inspira Advisory and Consulting Limited hosted a validation workshop to share and discuss the findings of the Feasibility Study on Renewable Energy Potential and Geographic Suitability for Bangladesh's Ready-Made Garment (RMG) sector, facilitated in partnership with Oxfam in Bangladesh.

Discussions spanned the geographic suitability of solar, wind, biogas, and hydropower technologies, installation viability at factory and cluster levels, and the policy enablers needed to accelerate adoption across Bangladesh's RMG landscape.

The workshop brought together a diverse group of stakeholders including RMG factories, academia, EPC specialists, development partners, and NGO representatives to review the study findings, provide ground-level feedback, and contribute recommendations toward a practical and inclusive renewable energy transition for the sector.

The insights gathered today will inform actionable pathways for industry actors, investors, and policymakers working toward a just and sustainable energy future for Bangladesh.

Access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene remains a critical challenge for Bangladesh’s rapidly urbanising low-income communities. In this context, we are collaborating with WaterAid Bangladesh to conduct the Endline Study for the WASH4UP Phase II project.

WASH4UP Phase II is a multi-city urban WASH initiative that focuses on improving inclusive and climate-resilient services for low-income populations. The project works across city corporations and municipalities to strengthen service delivery systems, improve access to safe water and sanitation, promote hygiene practices, and enhance institutional capacity, with a strong emphasis on gender, climate resilience, and equitable access.

The endline evaluation led by Inspira will involve assessing changes in access, service quality, hygiene behaviours, and system performance through engagement with the local communities, service providers, and institutions within the project's scope.

The findings from this evaluation will inform future programme design, policy direction, and scaling of urban WASH interventions, contributing to more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable service systems for Bangladesh’s urban poor.

Earth Day 2026 | Our Power, Our Planet

On this Earth Day, we want to highlight one of the most actionable opportunities for industrial decarbonisation in Bangladesh.

Across four key SME clusters, leather, plastic manufacturing, plastic packaging, and light engineering, targeted measures could reduce 14.097 million tons of CO₂ annually, according to a March 2026 study reported by The Climate Watch. That is roughly one-fifth of Bangladesh's entire NDC 3.0 energy-sector reduction target for 2035, as outlined by the Government of Bangladesh.

SME decarbonisation is therefore a climate priority, an industrial strategy, and a competitiveness question converging in one place. The national ambition is already on paper. The business case is increasingly concrete. What comes next is whether implementation can move fast enough to turn this from research insight into real infrastructure and measurable change.

Bangladesh's 24,000 km of rivers offer a significant opportunity to transform its logistics sector. By modernizing its inland water transport, the country could reduce freight costs by 55% and boost trade by 20%. Despite these clear economic advantages, road transport continues to dominate due to insufficient infrastructure and persistent governance failures.

According to The Business Post (2022), between Dhaka and Chattogram, the tariff to transport a 20-foot container is around Tk.600 per ton by Inland water transport (IWT) compared to Tk.1200 for rail and Tk.6000 for road.

The network already exists. What’s needed now is the investment in domestic logistics infrastructure to shift the country toward more sustainable, cost-effective transport solutions.
