2. Popular Theatre: Supplementary force of Development.
Bangladesh witnesses a unique combination of Government efforts supported actively by NGOs and a number of local institutions run in individual enterprise. For example BRAC and other such NGOs are running huge micro-credit programs in several parts of the country. But these credit-based sustainable development endeavors could only be meaningfully implemented provided that popular awareness in raised and the level of people’s socio-economic perceptions in lightened to a degree which helps guarantee the best utilization of credit and any financially supported sustenance efforts. Here comes the very active relevance of Popular Theatre to raise mass awareness and perceptions of the issues that tend to concern them directly.
3. Development & Popular Theatre
Popular culture is a highly communicative means of mass entertainment as well as of awareness building campaign to take a message to the people to be better understood easily by the people. Reason behind its so easy communicability lies in the fact that it is played in the people`s language true to their typical characteristics. This unique cultural input addressed direct to the target groups of people, enriching its field orchestration by the people`s exuberant participation, especially from the downtrodden section of poor rural population.
IVDC has been the pioneer in the introduction and training support services on and for the propagation of Popular Theatre. In our actives pursuit to introduce Popular modes of mass communications, we found this media as the most pro-active, reproducible and far reaching in its popular implications as a clandestine media outlet to get at the heart of the people. In our case in Bangladesh it is a undeniable fact that in folk cultural elements we find the true reflection of our rural life and life`s social and socio-economic relations.
IVDC in consideration to contribute to the advancement of the masses serves as a leading training and material resource provider to organizations interested to use popular culture as an effective means of communication.
Cardinal behind IVDC`s efforts to promote popular theatre is to accelerate human development through raising awareness of people. IVDC has so far imparted training and consultancy services on promoting popular theatre and now if enters in to various programme partnerships. A Pioneer in the sector we constantly innovate ways and means to prorate popular theatre as the leading trainer, performing forceps organizer and material resource provider to organizations interested to communicate with their target group of people effectively through folk media.
4. Objectives
 To develop and enrich popular theatre into a communication network which will come to the great advantage of all development programs in rural areas.
