🧱 "Does More Cement Equal a Stronger Concrete Casting?" 🤔
🔰 Myth vs. Reality in Construction! 👇
👉 During home construction, many of us hold a common misconception— "The more cement we use, the stronger the building will be!" But as a Civil Engineer, I am telling you, this idea is completely wrong and highly risky.
✅ In the language of science and according to engineering principles, using excessive cement does not make the concrete stronger; rather, it can cause severe structural damage.
Why? Let’s find out: 🔻
🔹 1. Cracking: When cement is mixed with water, a chemical reaction occurs, known as the 'hydrothermal reaction' (heat of hydration). This generates a massive amount of heat. If there is excess cement in the mix, it releases intense heat, causing numerous fine cracks or 'shrinkage cracks' as the concrete dries.
🔹 2. Reduced Durability: Too much cement causes the concrete mix to absorb excessive water. When this water eventually evaporates, it leaves behind tiny hollow pockets or pores inside, which significantly reduces the long-term strength of the concrete.
🔹 3. Waste of Money: Adding more cement than the correct ratio simply means throwing your hard-earned money down the drain.
🔺 So, what is the correct rule? 👇
Every structural element—whether it is a building’s column, beam, or roof slab—has a specific mix ratio (such as 1:1.5:3 or 1:2:4) defined in its structural design. Cement, sand, and stone/brick chips must be added precisely in the required proportions.
