Founded in 1904, the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) is the oldest and the pre-eminent trade organization of Bangladesh

Founded in 1904, the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) is the oldest and the pre-eminent trade organization of Bangladesh. Its membership roll encompasses leading commercial and large industrial organizations of the country, including public sector corporations and local as well as multinational companies. Presently, almost all major enterprises of the manufacturing and service sector are among its members. The Chamber provides a wide range of professional services to its members. The Chamber’s services, developed over a long period, are comprehensive and cover specialized areas such as taxation, import-export, tariff and non-tariff measures, investment, WTO matters and other national and international economic and commercial concerns. The Chamber maintains a secretariat manned by professional staff. It offers secretarial services to the Bangladesh Employers’ Federation (BEF), the lone national level organization of employers in the country dealing with industrial relations, occupational safety and health, workplace cooperation, skills development, labor law and other labor-related issues. The Chamber’s policy recommendations and inputs related to ongoing reforms have gained wide acceptance amongst government and policy makers. MCCI has earned recognition at home and abroad by offering services such as issuing certificate of origin, through conducting economic research and sector surveys, offering trade and investment facilitation services, legal services, information management and dissemination, and with publications related to trade and commerce. The Chamber is represented in many Advisory Councils as well as Committees formed by various ministries of the government of Bangladesh. MCCI also maintains effective working relations with development partners, e.g., the World Bank Group, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Asia Foundation. MCCI has a long history of joint collaboration and corporate understanding. It interacts regularly with major international trade bodies and many private sector organizations located all over the world.

The Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI), in collaboration
with Policy Exchange Bangladesh (PEB), organized a discussion session on 20 August
2026 at its Gulshan office. The session brought together development partners,
commercial counsellors, and commercial attachés from embassies and high
commissions to familiarize them with the Bangladesh Purchasing Managers’ Index
(PMI). MCCI Director Mr. Ardashir Kabir delivered the welcome remarks. A brief
presentation on the PMI by PEB set the stage for an engaging open discussion. The
event concluded with a vote of thanks from MCCI. Mr. Farooq Ahmed,
Secretary‑General and CEO of MCCI, moderated the session.

The Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI), in collaboration with Policy Exchange Bangladesh (PEB), organized a discussion session on 16 August 2026 at its Gulshan office to familiarize members of academia with the Bangladesh Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI). The session brought together university students, researchers, and faculty members, encouraging their insights on the effective utilization, implementation, and wider outreach of this important economic indicator. MCCI President Mr. Kamran T. Rahman delivered the welcome remarks, followed by introductory remarks from Dr. M. Masrur Reaz, Chairman and CEO of PEB. A brief presentation on the PMI by PEB set the stage for an engaging open discussion. The dialogue highlighted the role of academia in strengthening the relevance and credibility of the index. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from MCCI.

The Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) hosted “Japan–Bangladesh Business Connect 2026” at The Westin Dhaka on 3 August 2026. Organized with the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and supported by the Japanese Commerce and Industry Association in Dhaka (JCIAD), the event aimed to strengthen business ties and explore future cooperation.
H.E. Mr. Shinichi Saida, Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh, attended as Chief Guest, while Mr. Shibir Bicitro Barua, Additional Secretary (IIT wing), Ministry of Commerce, was Guest of Honor. MCCI President Mr. Kamran T. Rahman delivered the welcome remarks.
Presentations were given by Mr. Kazuiki Kataoka, JETRO Dhaka Country Representative, and Mr. Syed Nasim Manzur, Former MCCI President. The networking session, which was moderated by MCCI Senior Vice-President, Mr. Habibullah N. Karim, was officially commenced by Mr. Yuji Wagata, President of JCIAD. The event was moderated by Mr. Farooq Ahmed, Secretary-General and CEO, MCCI.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks from MCCI, bringing together representatives of the Bangladeshi and Japanese business communities in a meaningful step toward deeper collaboration.

Mr. Farooq Ahmed, Secretary-General and CEO of MCCI, delivered the welcome remarks. Mr. Hassib Hassan, Programme Coordinator at PEB, presented an overview of the PMI program in Bangladesh and shared insights from the latest report.
Following the presentation, an open discussion was held during which participants shared their perspectives and observations. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from MCCI. Representatives from MCCI, PEB, MCCI member firms, and the media attended the discussion session.

The Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) organized the third session of its ongoing discussion series titled “How AI is Shaping Business: Applications in Solving Business Challenges and Enhancing Productivity” on 09 July 2026 at its Gulshan office. The objective of the discussion was to deepen understanding of practical AI applications for businesses, guide MCCI in identifying community priorities, and provide inputs that align private sector initiatives with government policies to foster enterprise level adoption and workforce up skilling. The event was moderated by Dr. Arif Dowla, Member, Board of Directors, MCCI. Representatives from academia, business leaders, and members of the MCCI Board of Directors attended the discussion.

The Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) hosted a Post-Budget Dialogue on National Budget FY2026-2027 on Wednesday, 17 June 2026, at its Gulshan Office. The event was a joint collaboration between MCCI, Standard Chartered Bangladesh (SCB), and Policy Research Institute of Bangladesh (PRI). Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Hon'ble Adviser to the Prime Minister, Ministry of Finance & Ministry of Planning, graced the event as the Chief Guest. MCCI President Mr. Kamran T. Rahman delivered the welcome statement, followed by opening remarks from Mr. Naser Ezaz Bijoy, CEO, SCB, and introductory remarks from Dr. Zaidi Sattar, Chairman, PRI. Context-setting was done by Mr. Hasan Mahmood, FCA, Chairman, Tariff and Taxation Committee, MCCI. Two insightful presentations were delivered by Dr. Ahmad Ahsan, Director, PRI, and Mr. Sarker Nahidul Islam, FCA, Director–Tax and Advisory Services, Rahman Rahman Huq. The session featured an interactive discussion and Q&A moderated by Mr. Farooq Ahmed, Secretary-General and CEO, MCCI, before the Chief Guest’s address. Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) organized a B2B meeting with a 15-member trade delegation from the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Pakistan, on 02 May 2026 at the MCCI’s Police Plaza premises to enhance bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Pakistan. Mr. Kamran T. Rahman, President, MCCI delivered the introductory remarks. The KCCI delegation was led by Mr. Muhammad Raza, Senior Vice-President, KCCI, and included Mr. Zain Aziz, Trade and Investment Attaché, High Commission of Pakistan in Bangladesh. The MCCI delegation included Directors, Mr. Syed Tareque Md. Ali and Mr. Golam Mainuddin, as well as Mr. Farooq Ahmed, Secretary-General & CEO. MCCI, in collaboration with Policy Exchange Bangladesh (PEB), organized a Business Climate Dialogue titled “Improving the Investment Climate: Why It’s Critical for the New Government Priorities and the Upcoming National Budget” on Wednesday, 29 April 2026, at the MCCI’s Police Plaza office. The dialogue brought together policymakers, business leaders, investors, and experts to discuss investment climate challenges and opportunities, informed by insights from the Bangladesh Business Climate Index (BBX).
