**** FACTS ABOUT TURKISH RESIDENCE PERMIT *****
• What is Turkish Residence Permit?
A Turkish Residence Permit is an authorization to remain in Turkey for the purposes of settlement.
• What are the Residence Permit Types?
There are several types of Residence Permits that allow foreigners to live in Turkey. The most attractive and safest type is- getting a Residence Permit by purchasing an immovable property. The common immovable property is an apartment. In a sense- people who buy an apartment in Turkey, can receive a residence permit to live here.
• How long a Residence Permit Valid?
Generally, a Residence Permit (by purchasing apartment) is valid for 2 years. It can be renewed after every 2 year until you own the apartment.
• What are the benefits of getting a Residence Permit in Turkey?
Some important benefits are: You can live in Turkey permanently (until you own the apartment), can apply for citizenship after 5 years, can join job or business, get free family doctor’s support, free education for children, enjoy a fresh, healthy and safe lifestyle, live in a combination of Islamic and European environment etc.
• Can I travel another countries by using Turkish Residence Permit?
No. Turkish Residence Permit is valid only for traveling to Turkey. You don’t need a visa to enter Turkey if you have the Residence Permit.
• If I get a Residence Permit, can I bring my family here?
Yes. When you receive your Residence Permit, you can apply for your family members and can get their Residence Permits too.
• If a person buys an apartment, can he get Residence Permit automatically?
No. Applying for a Residence Permit is a separate procedure. You need to apply to Immigration department along with necessary papers for the Residence Permit.
• Can I get a Citizenship in Turkey if I get Residence Permit here?
You know- you can live in Turkey by a Residence Permit. You can renew it after every 2 years. After 5 years, you can apply for a citizenship here. Or if you don’t want citizenship, after 8 years, you can apply for a Permanent Residence Permit. After you receive a Permanent Residence Permit, you don’t need to renew it anymore.
• Is there any minimum apartment budget rule set by the Turkish Government for getting a Residence Permit?
No. The apartment can be from any price. A cheap or expensive apartment doesn’t affect the Residence Permit procedure. You just need to prove the Government that- you own an apartment here.
• How can I bring my money in Turkey to buy an apartment?
There is NO restriction on bringing money to Turkey. Turkey is an investment friendly country. You can send money from your own country or can send here from any other country or you can bring money by cash if you want.
• For Residence Permit, a foreigner should buy a newly built apartment or he can buy an old apartment?
It’s not mandatory to buy a newly built apartment. You can buy old apartment also. You just need to prove the Government that- you own an apartment.
• Is the Residence Permit valid only for the city where I buy the apartment?
No. When you get a Residence Permit, it is valid for all over Turkey. You can live in any city inside Turkey.
• Is there any possibility of facing forged/fraudulent activities while buying an apartment?
It depends. You should make proper paperwork/ agreement while making payment as advance to an agent. But, after you receive your apartment’s registration document (TAPU) from the government office, you are ensured that all the background inspection has completed by the government and now you are the only owner of this apartment.
• After a foreigner buys an apartment, is there any possibility of facing legal issues or can someone else later claim that apartment’s ownership?
No. As mentioned above, after you receive registration document (TAPU), you are the owner of that apartment. Nobody else can claim the apartment.
• Can I buy apartment in Turkey while I stay in my country?
For buying an apartment, you need to travel to Turkey by a regular tourist/visit visa. Still there are some other options. You can authorize to someone in Turkey who can buy an apartment on your name. For this- you need to visit the Turkish Embassy/ Consulate in your country and make notarize the authorization paper.
