For many Student visa applicants, bringing a spouse or dependent children is now restricted.

Limited exemptions may apply, Including Certain:

• PhD students
• DFAT/Defence-sponsored students
• Foreign government scholarship holders
• Eligible Pacific and ASEAN students
• Certain applicants with family already included on an existing Student visa

⚠️ CURRENT STUDENTS — NEEDING ANOTHER STUDENT VISA?
Current Student visa holders may no longer be able to simply apply for another Student visa while remaining in Australia.
In many situations, the new Student visa may need to be lodged and granted offshore.

There are limited exemptions, including some students who:

• Need up to 12 additional months to complete their existing course with the same provider
• Are progressing to a higher AQF level
• Are PhD students
• Are affected by certain provider/course closures or defaults

Minister for Home Affairs Tony Burke has announced key reforms aimed at lowering net overseas migration. These major updates will impact international students, visitors, and working holidaymakers.

Key Takeaways from Today’s Announcement:

📌 International Student Pathways & Dependants
• Students seeking another Student visa will generally need to progress to a higher-level qualification.
• Secondary family members/dependants will generally no longer be allowed on student and temporary graduate visas (Limited exceptions are expected ).

📌 Visitor Visa Restrictions
• All future visitor visas will automatically include Condition 8503 ("No Further Stay"), restricting onshore substantive visa applications.

📌 Working Holiday Visa Ballots
• Ballots and annual caps are proposed for people seeking second- and third-year Working Holiday Maker visas.
• Regional-work requirements will also apply.
• Some countries with FreeTrade Agreement expected to remain exempt from the caps and regional-work requirements.

📌Skilled visa processing priorities
• Ministerial Direction 119 is already in effect.

The Australian Government has announced important changes affecting the BSB80120 Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) (GDML) for international students.
From 5 October 2026:
❌ No new overseas students can be enrolled in the GDML course.
❌ No new Confirmation of Enrolments (CoEs) can be issued for the course.
❌ Overseas students who have not commenced the course by 5 October 2026 will not be able to commence it after this date.
✅ Students who have already commenced the GDML before 5 October 2026 may continue their studies and complete the course.
⚠️ Already have a future GDML CoE?
If you already hold a CoE for BSB80120 Graduate Diploma of Management (Learning) and your course commencement date is after 5 October 2026, or you are unable to commence the course by that date, your CoE will be cancelled.
If this applies to you, now is the time to review your study options.
