The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) SUST Student Chapter successfully organized its Orientation Program for the newly enrolled students of the 2025โ€“26 session.

The program provided an excellent opportunity for the newcomers to learn about SPE, its mission, activities, and the professional and academic opportunities it offers. Our respected faculty members shared valuable insights on the importance of professional development, leadership, networking, and active participation in SPE activities throughout their academic journey. We are grateful to all the honorable teachers, senior members, and students whose presence and contributions made this event a success.

A warm welcome to our new members. We look forward to an exciting journey of learning, innovation, and professional growth together

It fills us with immense pride to announce that Minhaz Chowdhury (Session 2019-20), former Vice President of the SUST SPE Student Chapter, has been admitted as a PhD Student in Petroleum Engineering at Texas Tech University, joining the Bob L. Herd Department of Petroleum Engineering in Fall 2026. ๐ŸŽ‰

Minhaz's journey with our chapter spans over three and a half years, from Executive Member, to Organizing Secretary, and finally to Vice President. Over the years, he was part of a chapter working to organize technical workshops and connect students with the wider SPE community. His time with SPE was also recognized with a Letter of Commendation from the SPE International Board of Directors. ๐Ÿ…

But those who know him know that Minhaz is more than his titles. He is a relentless researcher, a marathon runner who never stops chasing the next finish line, and a genuine friend to everyone in this chapter. The discipline, humility, and drive he brought to every event are the very qualities now carrying him across the world to pursue his doctorate. Watching a member grow from a first-year volunteer into a PhD researcher at a leading U.S. institution is exactly why this chapter exists. As you begin this exciting new chapter, know that your SPE family back home will always be cheering for you. Congratulations, Minhaz!
