Meet Ecem, part of our Impact Hub Antwerp Team community.

Hello everyone! I’m Ecem, an architect from Turkey. I graduated from TED University, and I’m joining the Impact Hub Antwerp team as a Spatial Design Intern. I’ll be focusing on space optimization, member experience, and visual design.

I have always believed that the spaces we spend time in really affect how we connect and share ideas. That is a big part of why I wanted to get involved in the social impact space. I have a strong interest in circular economy, and I am really excited to see how spatial design and sustainable, circular principles can work together in a real community. I’m also very curious to see how a well-designed environment can actually help turn daily conversations into concrete projects.

I am still pretty new to Antwerp, but it already feels like an inspiring place. I am currently building my own personal map of the city, and here are a few spots that have made the list so far:

🌊 Last Wednesday was Machinery Day.

For our FeWhale peer review session, two female founders put their businesses to the test.

Godderis, founder of , and Ponomarenko, founder of , gave us insight into the machinery of their respective businesses talking about capability, financial resilience and risk awareness. During the session, they had the chance to state and clarify the messaging of their presentation, as the peer group explored opportunities going forward.

No polished pitches or the pretense that everything is running perfectly. Just honest questions, constructive critique, and a room full of supporters asking, “But what happens if …”.

Thank you, Marie and Anna, for your openness. That’s the real work of building something that lasts!

We’re building a marketplace.
But not quite the usual kind.
It’s called SheSells with a little wink to the seashells. 🐚

On 13 November, as part of FeWhale, we’re creating a space for women entrepreneurs to showcase what they’ve built. At DIVE | Digital & Interactive Venue , in the Sandbox (yes, really 🤭), bring your products, services, brands, and businesses.
Because there are so many women building brilliant things in Belgium, and frankly, we should be seeing more of them.

Out of the Hub and into the neighbourhood 🌱
We spent the World Cleanup Day together getting outside, cleaning up our surroundings and enjoying some time with the Impact Hub community.

Meet our newest intern: Ayça is from Turkey, and has recently graduated in Psychology from TED Üniversitesi. She’s always been interested in people, communication, and bringing people together, which is also what made her curious about the social impact space. We’re lucky she will be spending the next two months at Impact Hub Antwerp, working on communication, events, and outreach.

What she finds most exciting about this experience is stepping into a completely different environment from the one she’s used to. She is curious about
– what makes people turn an idea into a project,
– what keeps them motivated along the way,
– and how different people contribute to making something happen.
She is also hoping to bring a little bit of psychological logic into this experience while discovering new ways of working, thinking, and connecting with people.

She’s already really enjoying Antwerp. Somehow, it has already started to feel a little like home away from home for her. Discovering some favourite spots along the way and looking forward to discovering more.

This is Alisa, she’s from Germany, currently studying Communication, Culture & Management at Zeppelin University, with a minor in Politics, Administration & International Relations.
For the next three months, she’ll be joining the Impact Hub Antwerp team as an intern, working across communication, events and outreach, and probably discovering a few areas she didn’t know she was interested in yet. 🤫
She is especially looking forward to getting a closer look at how an impact-oriented organisation communicates its work, how events can create opportunities for exchange and dialogue, and how ideas move from conversation to something more concrete. (And we hope she can find ways to improve this, making us more effective). She’s very excited to learn from the entrepreneurs and changemakers.
She’s only been in Antwerp for a short time, so she’s still discovering the city. But a few places have already made it onto her personal map:
