A lot of Western countries today have a somewhat distorted view of China, mostly because of biased or incomplete media coverage. Over time, this kind of narrative leads to misunderstandings and poor business decisions—causing them to miss out on real opportunities for mutual benefit.

At the same time, Europe has limited energy resources, and for political reasons, it’s avoiding cheap energy alternatives, relying on expensive U.S. supplies instead. Military spending is going up, the internal market isn’t that big, and if it keeps pulling away from trade with China, it could seriously limit its future economic space.

I really believe that with a more rational and practical approach—less misunderstanding, more cooperation—China and Europe still have a lot of untapped potential to grow together.

"WE HAVE TO MAKE FUTURE"
Deze week boetseren 10 Chinese top beeldhouwers in de Antwerpse Koninklijke Academie
voor Schone Kunsten naar een levend Vlaams model. Zhu Shangxi de voorzitter van de
Proffesionele Beeldhouwers Vereniging van China is één van de groepsleden. Een ander lid is
Fan Weimin hij is de stichter van het China Sculpture Magazine, het meest aantoongevend
beeldhouwmagazine uit Azië.
In deze groep hebben allen een enorme bewondering voor Rodin. Vermits Rodin eerst in
België bekend was en ook zijn eerste bronzen werk verkocht via de Koninklijke Maatschappij
ter Aanmoediging der Schone Kunsten (de vzw die het project onthaalt en vormgeeft)
werden ze als het ware aangetrokken door Antwerpen, een stad waar de derde oudste
Academie van Europa (gesticht in 1663) zich bevindt. Allemaal redenen die hen noopten te kunnen boetseren naar levend model in de Antwerpse Academie. Hun bedoeling is om de gerealiseerde sculpturen te doneren aan de Koninklijke Maatschappij ter Aanmoediging der Schone Kunsten (KoMASK vzw) die nadien de werken zal overdragen aan een Antwerps
museum.
Het evenement kreeg als werktitel "We have to make Future" wat de titel is van een foto die
de voormalige directeur Bart'd Eyckermans van het deeltijds kunstonderwijs van de
Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten Antwerpen in China maakte tijdens een artist in residence program in een enorm beeldhouwatelier. De titel refereert naar zijn verlangen te bouwen aan bruggen tussen verschillende culturen waarbij kunstenaars persoonlijke
contacten omzetten in bredere gedragen maatschappelijke verbindende projecten.
