A façade defined by rhythm, warmth and quiet material expression.

For this residence in Diepenbeek, Studio Segers Architecten embraced the site's exceptional width with a strongly horizontal composition. The result is a monolithic home that feels closed and understated from the street, yet opens generously towards the garden, patio and covered terrace.

That same sense of calm continues in the material palette. The sand-coloured Ultima RT165 by Randers Tegl, used here for the very first time, adds subtle texture and depth while reinforcing the long architectural lines.

Ton-sur-ton joints and slightly recessed horizontal pointing make the façade read almost as one continuous surface, without losing the natural character of brick.

When the original material choice proved too dominant during ex*****on, Studio Segers Architecten and Heylen Ceramics quickly switched direction. New samples and joint proposals followed the same day, allowing the architecture, detailing and material to come together exactly as intended.

A sixties-inspired façade, brought back to life through colour and ceramics.

What started as a smaller renovation in Berchem grew into a complete transformation of this modernist townhouse by Stam architecten. The ambition was clear: preserve the character of the original building while bringing its performance and material expression up to date.

Ceramic brick slips became a key part of that balance. Lightweight, precise and well suited to renovation, they allowed more room for insulation while offering the freedom to refine the façade in detail.

Instead of returning to the original red-brown tones, Stam architecten chose two contrasting finishes by Rairies Montrieux: the glossy green Nénuphar Cristallin and the matte yellow Antares. Together, they create a playful nod to sixties modernism, while still connecting naturally to the surrounding streetscape.

Mock-ups and close collaboration between architect, client and Heylen Ceramics helped fine-tune the colour, texture and detailing, especially valuable for an application with few existing references.

A renovation built on respect for what was there, and confidence in what it could become.

Brick, timber and concrete set the tone at Rumi Antwerp.

Facing the Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Antwerp’s South district, this project makes the complete building and stay come together with a ground floor designed by Studio Contekst. Shaped around food, encounters and changing experiences.

The Aurea Ravenna tiles wrap the façade, entrance, and thresholds in a warm, understated rhythm. Used in different formats and orientations, they add depth and variation without disturbing the calm character of the architecture.

Inside, timber, earth tones and exposed concrete continue the same tactile material language, creating a place that feels both refined and welcoming.

Long lines, monumental surfaces and a carefully refined silhouette.

For this residence in Diepenbeek, Studio Segers Architecten used the unusually wide site to create a strongly horizontal design. Closed and understated from the street, the home opens fully towards the garden, patio and covered terrace.

The sand-coloured Ultima RT165 by Randers Tegl reinforces that calmness. The long Wasserstrich format, natural texture and ton-sur-ton joints create a warm, monolithic façade while subtly emphasising the horizontal lines.

This project also marked the first application of the RT165. Together with Studio Segers Architecten, we helped fine-tune the brick, joint colour and detailing to bring architecture, material and ex*****on together as one.

A contemporary home, rooted in its surroundings.

For this family residence in Hoogkarspel, NOMAA architecten translated the character of traditional Dutch farmhouses into a lighter, more refined architectural language. Three intersecting volumes create privacy, openness and a strong connection to the surrounding parkland and fields.

The façade plays a key role in that balance. The long-format Ultima RT153 by Randers Tegl brings a modern rhythm to a familiar material, while its light tone complements the thatched roof, wooden details and open landscape.

From a distance, the façade feels calm and understated. Up close, the Wasserstrich texture reveals subtle variations, natural irregularities and depth.

Together with Architectural Materials Amsterdam, we helped translate the architectural vision into the right choices for this project. Because a strong façade is shaped not only by the material itself, but by every detail surrounding it.

A soft green statement on a biomedical campus.

How do you give big buildings a lighter feel without losing their presence?

For O&N5 and O&N6 at Gasthuisberg in Leuven, Wiegerinck and LOW Architects designed a façade that softens the scale and brings a fresh, calm note to the site. With Heylen Ceramics, they developed a custom light-green brick for the project. The edelengobe finish adds subtle depth and a gentle shimmer, while chain bond brickwork introduces a refined vertical rhythm.

From afar, the buildings read brighter and lighter. Up close, the brick reveals nuance, texture, tonal shifts, and quiet complexity.

Looking back on Dag van de Architectuur.
A day shaped by inspiring projects, meaningful conversations and a shared love for architecture. From open buildings to the very first Flanders Architecture Award, this edition showed how architecture brings communities closer to the spaces they live, work and grow in.

As a partner, Heylen Ceramics is proud to support an initiative that celebrates architectural vision, craftsmanship and the thoughtful use of materials.

When a façade colour does not exist yet, we create it.

On the Gasthuisberg campus in Leuven, the new O&N5 and O&N6 buildings by Wiegerinck and LOW Architects bring unexpected softness to a large-scale biomedical campus.

This was not an off-the-shelf brick. Together with Heylen Ceramics, the architects developed a custom light-green, almost mint-coloured façade brick with subtle depth and a gentle shimmer, produced specifically for this project.

The result was a true first: a new edelengobe finish with refined colour variation and a soft glimmer. The green nuances help soften the scale of the buildings, while the chain bond brickwork adds a delicate vertical rhythm.

From a distance, the campus feels lighter and more open. Up close, the brick reveals its texture, detail and quiet complexity.

For , material choices are never an afterthought, they're part of the design process from day one.

From the very first sketches of this project in Dendermonde, Heylen Ceramics joined the conversation to help shape a façade that would soften the strict geometry of the architecture while adding rhythm and texture to the volume.

Together, architect and supplier went back to the source, visiting the artisanal brick factory Klinkers to compose the right blend for the project. A mix of Rock Fort Extra Wit and Lambermont Extra Wit, spread across different formats, became the foundation of a façade that feels both precise and natural.

A project built on dialogue, craftsmanship and a shared obsession for detail.

A classic material, used with a very precise twist.

In Dendermonde, Reid Senepart Architects designed a home that plays with contrast: modest towards the street, open towards the landscape and shaped by a shifted upper floor that brings extra lightness to the volume.

The façade tells that story in brick. Together with Heylen Ceramics, the architects selected a carefully balanced mix of Rock Fort Extra Wit and Lambermont Extra Wit in three formats. Different lengths and heights create a lively, almost natural rhythm, while the full pattern was mapped out in advance to get every detail right.

The result is a façade that feels calm at first glance, but reveals its complexity the closer you look.
