Company visits are an integral part of all of our programs, giving a much clearer idea of what’s happening inside specific industries and how they operate.

And every single one of those visits is an added value to the curriculum!

But we won’t deny that when the tour is given by one of our alumni, it does feel extra special, for both the students and the guide. 🤗

Like the Master in Global Management’s visit to couple of weeks ago.

We were welcomed by Sarah, an MGM alumna from the Class of 2024 and one of our guides for the day. For her as well, being on the other end of the visit this team really left a funny but fulfilling feeling:

“It’s really special to be on the other side of the mirror from where I used to be: visiting companies and learning about their activities, trying to form the full picture of what goes on behind the scenes and figuring out where your place would be.
Now, two years later, having found an amazing job at a cool company and really making something of myself professionally, it was my turn to try and convey that same picture in the best way possible.”

And the trip itself definitely didn’t disappoint either!
Barco is a Belgian company, but has sites in nearly 30 different countries around the world. With their tech being used everywhere, ranging from offices to museums to big events like Tomorrowland, that’s no surprise.

Did you know that 1 in 2 cinemas worldwide uses a Barco projector? 📽️

And seeing a company stay rooted in Belgium and still operate on such a global scale was especially valuable.

A big thank you to the whole team at Barco for having us!

Ps: peep the difference from then to now with some of of their older models! 📺

A recap made by , a student in the Master in Sustainable Innovation & Entrepreneurship.

This is what she had to say about the day she volunteered at the event!

“The Supernova experience as a whole was really great.

The team was also very helpful. We got a briefing way before the event, so we knew what to expect. And then on the day we were working itself, early in the morning, we got another briefing so it was smooth sailing from there.

It wasn’t a technical job or anything. Yes, we were working, but we were able to enjoy ourselves at the same time. We were there as volunteers, so we got to talk to a lot of different people and speakers, from all kinds of different backgrounds. As a business students, that was really important for us.

Depending on where we were stationed, we got to talk to the speakers beforehand and kind of learn what’s going through their minds before heading on stage.
Talking and networking with everyone was very inspiring and everyone was super nice.

So in short, it was a very immersive experience and glad to get a close-up of the innovation ecosystem in Antwerp. People come from all around the world for it and you’re there as part of it.“

With their schedule fully packed, the Master in Maritime Transport Management went to London! 🇬🇧

Together with the Air Transport students, they were welcomed at the Belgian Embassy and learned how they, as diplomats, are positioned to support international trading and maritime cooperation.

Following a guided tour of London, they were led to the to learn more about the evolution of maritime navigation, trade and how we got to the global industry it is today. ⚓️

The next few days were spent visiting various players in London’s maritime ecosystem, learning about all the different roles within the industry and and how they all operate. ⛓️

At , they dove into the required ship certifications and what they do as a trusted advisor. Based on their advice, insurance companies like lloydsoflondon can do their risk assessment on worldwide maritime operations. Another insurer, Thomas Miller and TT Club, told them more about how they handle claims and mitigate risks.

The , gave a clearer understanding of all that it takes to manage the port’s traffic, for both commercial and leisure vessels, maintain the river, and invest in the needed infrastructure, among many other things. 🚢

When looking for data on new developments and market research, Clarksons is the place to be. During this visit, they highlighted their current findings on disrupted supply chains, shipping market volatility and the effects of geopolitics.📊

Four experts from the International Chamber of Shipping came together to discuss their perspectives on trade and decarbonization policies and share them with the group, after which they continued their trip to the International Maritime Organization ( ). As the organization where the regulations are made, they learned about how decisions on safety and environmental protection are made.

Rejoining the air students, they enjoyed drinks sponsored by the and wrapped their week with a dinner at the Company of Watermen & Lightermen! 🍴

Thanks for having us! 🙏

All the way in the south of France, the Master in Global Supply Chain Management got to explore Marseille and deep-dive into ‘Supply Chains across borders’.

They arrived in Marseille early and were able to familiarize themselves with the city and its historic beauty beforehand.

On Monday, they kicked off their week with classes at . The lectures put a focus on Maritime Strategies and Geopolitics.

On Wednesday, they started their day with a boat tour through the port of Marseille, cruising past the big container ships and admiring these giant vessels from up close. 🚢

The combination of water, wind and speed meant everyone left with memories, photos and completely soaked clothes but nothing that a towel couldn’t fix.🤷

In the afternoon, they visited Daher, who specialise in heavy and oversized cargo logistics. A very impressive visit that we can’t say too much about TOP SECRET! 🤐

Finally, on Thursday, our students went head to head with the Kedge students in a business game.
Split up into various teams, they competed against each other, with the goal to become the biggest and most profitable container shipping company.
(Spoiler alert-we won! 🏆)

An evening highlight was celebrating the Academic Director’s birthday together, sharing drinks and having a good time! 🎉

The group dinner on the last night was also a perfect closing moment and plenty of other shared moments between the student’s themselves.
(This may or may not include betting on pig racing in a local Irish bar.)

All eyes on the sky above London! 🇬🇧

The Master in Air Transport Management went to London, a major hub for the air industry in Europe and the world!

Alongside the Master in Maritime Management, they started out with a tour of the city and got invited to the Belgian Embassy to learn more about their diplomatic activities. Afterwards, they split off and met with the students from the University of Westminster, whom they’ll be competing against in the IATA Airline Management Challenge for a drink.

There were a lot of opportunities to do some plane spotting, with visits to both and (learning about their business strategy and revitalization efforts) as well as , to see how they continue to optimize within capacity restraints and what data they use to do it.

The Heritage Collection was another interesting stop, seeing all these different parts and highlights of the companies history in one place.

At , they had a busy day, visiting their Aerospace Integration Research Centre, the Digital Aviation Research and Technology Centre and their new Accident Investigation Laboratory!

And to wrap everything up, they were welcomed to a dinner together with the Master in Maritime Transport Management, organized by the Company of Watermen & Lightermen!

Bonus: during the drink at the Angel Bar (offered by ), Air won this year’s Darts cup! 🎯

What do you have to look at when investing in a new company? That was the main topic of the Master in Finance’s trip to Paris. 🇫🇷

With their headquarters at KEDGE Business School for the week, they learned how to evaluate startups, which numbers actually matter, and how to decide which proposals are good investments.

The highlight of the trip was definitely their visit to : the world’s largest startup campus. An amazing innovation hub, where the students got to talk to entrepreneurs and learned more their side and what they do collect funding for their promising business ideas. 💡

Another interesting moment was when an experienced venture capitalist came by to explain his process, investment decisions and what, for him, truly makes a startup grow into a scale-up.

They also toured some of the oldest shopping galeries and passages in Paris: the old-school business hotspots.

They wrapped up their stay by exploring the city (and the metro system) together during the weekend.

The Spanish sun had much to offer: wonderful memories together and a different perspective on innovation for our Master in Management students. ☀️

They traveled all the way to Barcelona to spend a week studying Innovation Management in a Digital Era at Esade. Following new insights, heated debates and a few business cases & challenges to tackle, they applied their new perspectives to existing companies and earned themselves a new certificate. 🏅🕶️

To learn about innovation and implementation in practice, they visited HP’s 3D Printing and Digital Manufacturing Center of Excellence, where they discovered how its R&D is further shaping industries like healthcare, sports, fashion, mobility and more. 📈

A packed academic schedule, definitely, but there was still plenty of time to explore the city, enjoy dinners together, relax by the beach and make great memories along the way. 🍸🗺️

Thanks for sharing! 🫶
