The concept design for the reconstruction of Wapper has been approved by the City of Antwerp!

Our winning design of the iconic square in the middle of the city of Antwerp reflects the ambitions of the city on several levels. Together with De Urbanisten and D+A Consult, we designed a climate-robust square, with space for green and water, while taking into account the archaeological-historical value of the adjacent Rubenshuis and the underground historical Ruien.

The redevelopment of Wapper will turn the now thoroughly paved area into a contemporary and climate-resilient square that highlights its historical value. Pavement will be exchanged for trees, providing shaded areas and pleasant seating under the trees. Additionally, the "Rui" is utilized as an underground rainwater buffer and fulfils the ambitions from Antwerp's Water Plan by purifying the locally collected water and making it visible on the square. Wapper thus becomes a pleasant place to stay and will continue to be a safe, open and logical link between the shopping area and the theater district.

OMGEVING and Arcadis won the competition organized by Beliris for the redevelopment of the Avenue Jules Bordet in Evere. The aim is to create a 1.2 km-long landscape link in the guise of an urban boulevard with more space for active road users and greenery. The project will improve the liveability of the surrounding neighbourhoods, increase road safety and boost biodiversity. The studies are now ongoing.

OMGEVING is selected to draw up a vision for the public space and a cooling network for the historic city center of Arnhem in the Netherlands.

The aim is to develop an attractive and livable city center. This will benefit both the identity and the environmental and living quality. In this way, Arnhem can become not only the greenest city but also the most climate-proof city in the Netherlands!

OMGEVING together with Lasovsky Johansson Archtiects participated in the first workshop of the competition ČESKÉ BUDĚJOVICE ENERGY PARK in Czech Republic. We are assigned to propose an attractive and vibrant public space around the newly planned heating plant and also integrate it into the wider context of the city. For upcoming few months we will be searching for coherance between the very natural framework and industry.

Once the largest inland lake in Flanders. Today an intensively drained landscape. Discover in the LABOruimte report of the Dry Delta how OMGEVING reverses the drought and salinization in the Moervaart valley by activating the historical water system.

In fase 2 gingen de drie ontwerpteams van het onderzoek aan de slag met de bouwstenen uit fase 1. Zij testten deze bouwstenen uit op drie concrete gebieden:

The Flemish Ardennes and Haspengouw are one step closer to being recognized as a landscape park. After an intense cocreation process, the area coalitions, supported by OMGEVING, submitted the masterplan, operational plan and a landscape biography to the jury and the Flemish Government. It is now up to them to decide which three landscapes will receive recognition.

Won: 5 new hospitals of the HELORA network!

The HELORA network will become the first integrated hospital network in Wallonia. To create a complete HELORA reference system, the design of the outdoor space has been considered in "healing environment" mode. To achieve coherence and a collective identity for all the sites, a series of general principles has been proposed, such as transitional spaces, themed patios, integration into the landscape, exposure and orientation, islands of freshness, landscaping of the entire site and intelligible organization of multimodality. The project will have a human scale, placing nature at the heart of each hospital.

Locations: Mons, Nivelles, La Louvière, Warquiqnies, Lobbes/Thudinie

Lead design: archipelago architects

Client: The HELORA network (Groupe Jolimont and CHU Ambroise Paré, Mons)

Project in collaboration with: VK architects+engineers, part of Sweco, TRACTEBEL, Forum, CoCEPTIO, APSIS Santé, Antares Consulting, Leader Healthcare, ATOMBIM, BUREAU D'ETUDES PS2, A-Tech / Acoustic Technologies, A&G Atelier d'Architecture

Join us at the first Southeast Asian Urbanisms seminar!

OMGEVING will present two research papers during the Paper Session N°5 about Riverine Urbanism of the upcoming first Southeast Asia Urbanisms Seminar 2023 (SEAUS) next 29 and 30 May 2023 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The seminar is co-organised by the KU Leuven, UAH and UEH and will debate global warming in relation to architecture, landscape architecture and urbanism through academic research and insights from practice.

Our first research paper presentation, co-authored with GIZ Vietnam, offers insight into our research around nature-based design solutions with guidelines for water retention based on the case study Cau Rao River Park in Quang Binh, Vietnam. Our second research paper presentation, co-authored with Royal HaskoningDHV, addresses exploratory research around integrated flood management and the role of water urbanism in Tam Ky city, Vietnam.

With this research, OMGEVING aims to contribute to resilient landscape architecture and sustainable urbanism in Southeast Asia and to create cross-pollination between the academic field and practice.

OMGEVING will present the implementation guideline water retention during the GIZ webinar 'Urban Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) in Vietnam - Lessons learned from Quang Binh pilot models'.

The GIZ implementation Guideline ‘Water retention areas using the Delay – Store – Drain Concept. Nature-based solutions for urban adaption in Vietnam’ is published as part of the IKI project “Support to Viet Nam for the Implementation of Paris Agreement” (VN-SIPA). The guideline promotes nature-based solutions in urban contexts, encouraging local authorities and developers to adopt sustainable practices. With this support to client GIZ for preparing the guidelines and the presentation during the webinar, OMGEVING strives to contribute to the development of more resilient and livable urban areas in Vietnam. The guideline is available in English and Vietnamese via the following link: http://ikinews.climatechange.vn/guidelines-for-the-implementation-of-urban-ecosystem-based-adaptation-measures-in-quang-binh/

The webinar session will be held online between 3 pm - 4.20 pm VN time, 25.05.2023 via MS Teams meeting.

OMGEVING has been selected to participate in the second phase of Burgos Río, a competition that aims to reshape the relationship between the city of Burgos and the Arlanzón river in Spain. It is important to modernize and adapt this relationship so the whole fluvial system can be re-connected and able to cope with present and future scenarios.

This is the project of one generation, but will be enjoyed by future generations, just as we live now among spaces and infrastructures designed more than a century ago.
