Thank you to Elly Chapple for a powerful EGN Global Webinar on The Future of Teamwork Starts with Human Connection. Elly joined us live from England.

One of the key takeaways was that 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝒔𝒚𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒎 𝒐𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒏 𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒌𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒘𝒆 𝒅𝒐. As leaders, people can sense how we enter a room. Our pace, energy and presence influence whether others feel safe enough to say what they really think.

𝐄𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐬:

→ Your nervous system speaks before you do.
People respond to our emotional state before they respond to our words.

→ Trust begins with relational safety.
Teams can handle uncertainty in the task. It is much harder when they are uncertain about where they stand with their leader.

→ A pause can change your response.
Before the meeting, the email or the difficult conversation: What am I actually bringing into the room?

→ High-performing teams are built on human connection.
As AI and technology continue to transform the way we work, trust, honesty and psychological safety do not become less important. Quite the opposite.

Perhaps that is why one of the most important leadership questions is not only: “What should I say?” but also: “What does my presence make possible for others?”

Last Friday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Rasmus Thy Grøn to the EGN studio, live from Copenhagen.

Rasmus is currently out with his new book, Tankekraft, and during our EGN Live Webinar, he explored a question that is becoming increasingly important in a world shaped by AI, acceleration and constant change:

What is happening to our ability to think?

As AI takes over more and more cognitive routine tasks, it may not be those who work the fastest who gain the greatest advantage. It will be those who can pause, think deeply, ask better questions, see new connections and turn reflection into action.

𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬:
👉 Thinking power is becoming a strategic competitive advantage. As AI takes over more routine cognitive tasks, our ability to think critically, creatively and deeply becomes even more important.

👉 We need to develop the organisation’s thinking power – not just optimise operations. A thinking organisation creates space for reflection, curiosity, deeper thinking and new perspectives.

👉 Our mental operating system shapes our actions. Our thoughts, emotions and assumptions influence how we make decisions, respond to change and turn thoughts into action.

👉 Future leaders need to create space for thinking. It is not always about doing more and moving faster – but about creating the time and space for the questions that can truly move an organisation forward.

AI can make work more efficient, but it cannot replace the human ability to assess, imagine and create something new. Therefore, one of the leader’s most important tasks will not simply be to implement technology, but to develop the organisation’s thinking power.

𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬! 🔥

That was one of the comments following yesterday’s EGN Global Webinar with Lill Palmblad. And it’s not hard to understand why.

Lill focused on a question we perhaps don’t ask often enough:
𝘞𝘩𝘰 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘴 𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘴𝘴?

Drawing on her book Who Looks After the Boss?, Lill challenged the way we think about leadership wellbeing — and the responsibility organisations have to create conditions that enable leaders to thrive and sustain their leadership.
Because leadership isn’t only about skills, performance and results.
It’s also about the conditions we create for those who are expected to lead.

𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐤𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫:

🔹 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝒊𝒔, 𝒊𝒏 𝒊𝒕𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇, 𝒂 𝒉𝒊𝒈𝒉-𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒌 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒆𝒏𝒗𝒊𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕.
Leaders are expected to create direction, navigate complexity, support others and make sound decisions — often under constant pressure.

🔹 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒘𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒒𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒐𝒇 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑.
When energy, clarity and capacity disappear, it doesn’t only affect the leader - it also impacts the organisation’s ability to function and make good decisions.

🔹 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒔𝒏’𝒕 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒂𝒏 𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒅𝒖𝒂𝒍 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚.
We also need to look at the organisation around the leader. What drains energy? What creates it? And what structures protect against unhealthy pressure?

🔹 𝑳𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒘𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒃𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒔 𝒂𝒍𝒔𝒐 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒐𝒓𝒈𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝒄𝒂𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒊𝒕𝒚.
When leaders are supported, connected and equipped to handle pressure and complexity, organisations become better at maintaining direction, making sound decisions and navigating uncertainty.

We cannot expect strong leadership without also creating strong conditions for those who lead.

We talk a lot about employee wellbeing. And rightly so.
But how often do we talk about the wellbeing of leaders?

Today's leaders are expected to set direction, make difficult decisions, support their people, and navigate constant uncertainty. Yet one question is too often overlooked:
