Long before it wrapped a candle,
there was a traditional piece of textile —
woven by hand,
carrying ancestral patterns and stories.

Then it became a moment.
A warm glow.
A scent filling the room.

And when the flame fades,
it turns into an object for everyday life ♻️

The textile pouch transforms into a small basket —
perfect for a plant, made to hold new life 🌱

Each NOUR candle is wrapped in a different fragment of vintage hayk textile.

Boucherouite rugs are not just rugs.
They are memories, stitched together.

Born from necessity, woven from scraps of old clothing, boucherouite rugs became silent family archives.
A grandfather’s djellaba.
A child’s dress.
A fragment of everyday life, transformed into colour and rhythm.

Created exclusively by women, these rugs escape rigid traditions.
They are intuitive, personal, emotional.
Stories told without words, woven instead of written.

Each symbol speaks its own language:

🟨 yellow for man

Once hidden, long dismissed as “poor rugs”, today they are finally seen for what they truly are:

There’s a 2016 challenge going around on social media.
People sharing memories from that year.
I don’t usually join these things, but 2016 holds real meaning for me.

Morocco had already been part of my life for years.
For the light. The colours.
The balance between chaos and calm.
For the people, the stories, the unexpected encounters.

But in 2016, something shifted.
This wasn’t just another trip for pleasure.

It became my first professional buying trip —
as a retailer, searching for unique pieces
for my then to-be-opened concept store.

For the first time, I wasn’t only wandering and absorbing.
I was choosing.
Listening differently.
Looking with new eyes.

The souks became workspaces.
Rugs gained names and stories.
Conversations turned into collaborations.
And intuition slowly grew into direction.

Not everything was clear or certain.
But it felt right.

These images aren’t polished or perfect.
They’re honest.
The beginning of a path that brought me here.

Some journeys change you.
Others define you.

“What if we created our own candle line… but in true SOUK in the CITY style?”
Warm, handmade, vibrant, a little unexpected.
A Belgian–Moroccan blend wrapped in colour, craft and story.

From that thought… the slow magic began.

I searched. Tested. Sketched.
Talked with maâlems. Selected scents.
Tried out hundreds of colour combinations (yes… hundreds 😅).
Ayoub made the woven bands and gift pouches that were born from vintage hayks I mostly sourced at the criée.
Then came the embossed leather label.
And in between all that, dozens of tiny decisions you don’t see —
but you feel when you hold the candle in your hands.

And suddenly… we’re here.
Ready for the festive season with a candle line that feels warm, artisanal and unapologetically us.
Wrapped in texture.
Wrapped in colour.
Wrapped in story.

Meet NOUR — meaning light.
A collection that grew slowly, lovingly, through many months of creation.
