Complete restoration – Oil painting on canvas.
The artwork was covered with a thick yellowish layer of grime, the result of prolonged exposure to a heat source. It also bore multiple layers of oxidized varnish and overpaints. Additionally, the canvas had been relined, which made it overly rigid.
The treatment included the consolidation of lifting paint layers, surface cleaning and removal of varnish and overpaints. The relining canvas was removed, and the original canvas was reinforced. It was then followed by the filling of losses, inpainting, and final varnishing.

Yesterday, conservators Alexis Guillou (CARe Studio) and Aline Genbrugge, shared their expertise on panel paintings and structural conservation with the Monumentenwacht during a full day of theory and workshop within the museum collection of the Fine Arts Belgium

Last October our colleague Alexis Guillou (painting conservator) presented the work undertaken at .be with Aline Genbrugge. Their talk was about the structural conservation of the panel painting « Cabinet of curiosity of van der Geest » 1628, by Willem van Haecht from the . The main focus was the study of the mechanical behaviour of its peculiar structure and the adapation of pre-existing support for its treatment.

Work undertaken by our colleague Marianne Rochebeuf at Deir el-Medina : mission d'étude et de conservation in Luxor ➡️

Institut d'égyptologie Khéops

Avec l’aide du Fonds Khéops de soutien à l’Archéologie, l’équipe de conservation des décors et sculptures en pierre a pu réaliser l’étude et la documentation des fragments du sarcophage appartenant à la tombe TT_3 de Pached. Le relevé tridimensionnel de chaque bloc permettra son remontage et sa restauration in situ l’année prochaine.

Thanks to the Fonds Khéops de soutien à l’Archéologie, the conservation team of stone decors and sculptures could study and document the fragments of the sarcophagus belonging to Pashedu Tomb TT_3. The tridimentionnal modelling of each block will allow its reassembly and restoration in situ next year.

بمساعدة صندوق Khéops لدعم علم الآثار تمكن فريق ترميم الجداريات والمنحوتات الحجرية من دراسة وتوثيق اجزاء التابوت الحجري الذي ينتمي إلى المقبرة رقم 3 "باشيدو" وسيسمح المسح ثلاثي الأبعاد لكل كتلة بإعادة تجميعها وترميمها في مكانها الاصلي الموسم المقبل.

Restretching operation of a PVC (polyvinyl chlorade) film on a non-adjustable wooden stretcher. This treatment has allowed to recover the homogeneity of the overall appearence. Impressive cleaning test on a limestone sculpture covered by a non original oil-resin coating. As a consequence of aging and exposure to the ambient conditions outside , the coating has formed this peculiar “panther” pattern which alters the original surface and the overall appreciation of the artwork.
