🤔 Do you think the gender pay gap is increasing or decreasing?

The gender pay gap in the life sciences industry in Europe has increased from 11 percent reported in 2018 to 13.1 percent in 2020, - and it continues to favor men. As expected, Europe is not homogeneous, and the pay gap differs significantly among countries.

While commercial bio-pharma companies (14.13%) tend to be close to the Life Sciences median (14.03%), we see much higher pay differences in pre-commercial bio-pharma (20.68%) and medical devices companies (21.91%), while clinical research organizations (CROs) together with contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs) have the lowest median gender pay gap by industry at 8 percent.

Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association (HBA) in collaboration with Aon presented a report in 2021 about the state of gender parity in healthcare businesses across Europe.

is continuing their Corporate Roadshow throughout Belgium! In November, our members were welcomed by Merck Belgium general management and had the chance to meet a lot of engaged Merck employees.
explained its mission, vision, purpose and ways of working, and in which way HBA aims at helping individuals and organizations towards more gender parity. We had Interactive and inspiring discussions on the future of DE&I and how can be a better ally to support Merck Belgium.

Our take-aways:

✨ Lunch&learns are a great way to connect in a virtual world,

✨ We should benchmark more within Belgium with the different healthcare companies to discuss DE&I strategy and what really works/creates impact,

✨ Volunteering can be a great and safe way to gain experience in new fields, while creating visibility for an individual to further grow in their careers.
