💡 Good business ideas aren't only born in big cities.

Across Europe, talented entrepreneurs in smaller and remote regions often work far from the networks, partners and markets that help businesses grow. Interreg helps change that: connecting businesses across borders, opening doors to new partners, shared innovation and wider markets.

Because a company's postcode shouldn't decide how far it can go.

🌍 European regions become stronger when they tackle challenges together. Here’s how we can improve the Interreg cooperation.

Analyses by ESPON map how cooperation works across the continent, from all 48 cross-border areas to the 13 transnational cooperation areas, covering everything from labour markets and transport links to shared rivers. The result: a solid evidence base to help shape cooperation after 2027.

🌍 Over 60% of Europe's river basins cross national borders. Environmental action needs to cross them too.

Rivers connect our regions: the same waters that bring life can also carry floods, droughts and pollution from one country to the next.

Interreg supports regions to manage shared rivers together, from joint flood prevention to restoring water quality along entire basins.

As pressure on Europe's waters grows, deepening this cooperation is key to protecting the rivers that connect us all.

🏠 An old social home became energy-neutral in just two without the residents having to move out.

The Interreg-supported project INDU-ZERO made it possible.

Partners from six countries around the North Sea designed a factory blueprint that produces complete renovation packages: insulation, solar panels, heat pumps and ventilation, ready to install in days, at half the usual cost.

With 22 million homes in the region in need of meeting EU climate targets, solutions like this show how regional cooperation turns big challenges into practical results.

⚡ The EU has launched T-MED, a €25 billion initiative to connect Mediterranean energy markets by 2035.

Presented during European Sustainable Energy Week, T-MED targets 15 GW of new renewable capacity and over 100,000 clean energy jobs through investment in renewables, hydrogen, clean tech manufacturing and modern electricity networks.

At its core, it is about cross-border cooperation: regulatory alignment, shared infrastructure and bringing together governments, financial institutions and local stakeholders. A large-scale example of the energy integration that work supports every day.

🤝 60 residents. Two countries. One shared vision for their region's future.

The GO! 2025 Cross-Border Citizens' Assembly has launched in the Gorizia–Nova Gorica–Šempeter-Vrtojba area, part of GO! 2025, the first cross-border European Capital of Culture.
Coordinated by the International Sociological Institute of Gorizia (ISIG), the assembly brings together residents from both sides of the Italian-Slovenian border to discuss culture, economy, tourism and cross-border cooperation, with recommendations set to shape local governance beyond the Capital of Culture year.

A compelling model for : one deliberative space treating a cross-border area as a single community.
