This week, the Irish Presidency set out its autumn agenda at the informal General Affairs Council in Dublin, with democracy, enlargement and the taking centre stage. Ireland is targeting a Council general approach on the revision by December, as MEPs pushed back on allowance pricing and conditionality.
On the institutional front, France and Germany tabled a plan to overhaul the EEAS, which Kaja Kallas rejected. In Iceland, voters turned down EU accession talks. The Council approved a landmark overhaul of EU rules targeting e-commerce platforms. All this as Saxony-Anhalt heads to the polls with the AfD polling above 40%.
