Dewpal:
The aim of our project is to design an optimized 3D shape for condensing water, using a fusion protein of INP and streptavidin to increase our water collection. The shape is be designed to be modular (so it can be scaled up easily) and stackable (so many units can be transported and stored easily and cheaply), and is 3D-printed in a PLA-filament containing biotin. To increase the condensation capabilities of our water collector, we attach a fusion protein of INP (Ice Nucleation Protein) with streptavidin to the biotin. INP is a protein of certain bacteria that improves the nucleation of ice at higher temperatures than normal. As condensation also involves nucleation, INP can be used to increase condensation, and hence water collection. For an international engineering competition, bioscience engineering students have developed a structure that collects water from the air to tackle global water scarcity. The structure is a combination of 3D-printing and biotechnology.

We are a Ghent University team and want to solve the water shortage in the world!

We have found a way to condensate water faster using a combination of a 3d-printed optimized shape (based on a beetle from Namibia) and proteins that can nucleate ice.

We can use all the help we can get.

This is our crowdfunding page. Any donation, even 1 euro, would help a lot (takes about 2 minutes). Sharing this as well!

We finally managed to express INP on our E. coli. And as you can see, it is functional!
