As business growth coaches, we always talk about "Raving fans".

Ken Blanchard coined the term “raving fan” to describe a customer who is so overwhelmed and floored by the customer service they've received that they can't stop telling everyone about it.

When people ask me what I'm doing as a Systemic Business Coach, I'll always explain I'm working as a radiologist, also known as medical imaging technologist for businesses and business leaders by taking an X-ray of their company or business.

An X-ray produces images of the structures inside our bodies, which can't be seen from the outside to help define the right diagnosis. Patients might have no idea what's going on but they feel something is wrong.

Using systemic principles, I support organizations by creating an image of what's going on in the undercurrent of the company. Also in a business, people can feel things are working like it should (customers who are leaving, revenue is dropping, products don't sell like expected,...) but they have no idea what the cause might be. The symptom might have a different cause than you expect.

Just like with a hernia, you might feel pain in your leg. Treatment for your leg won't work if the real cause can be found in your back.

Using Systemic Business Design principles, we reveal the real problem and work on possible scenarios to unleash the full potential of the organization. Just as with a real X-Ray, the systemic way of working reveals the root cause fast, so treatment can start and no need for long assessments or analysis.

In a fast-changing world, it's important to have a Reinvention Mindset as your product or business might not be relevant anymore at a certain point. The context in which you operate might change, new laws might force you to change your product, supply chain issues might impact your business or the demand goes down.

One of the possible ways of reinvention to keep your business relevant might be to sell your product or service to another market segment.

A great example of this kind of reinvention is Play-Doh

Did you know the children's toy Play-Doh was a reinvention of the pliable compound used for wiping soot from wallpaper, produced by Kutol. The target group for this product were mainly households, who used it to clean wallpaper. Wallpaper got dirty because of using dirty coal to heat the house. Kutol Products had become the largest wallpaper cleaner manufacturer in the world in the early 20th century. With the transition from heating with dirtier coal to cleaner oil, gas and electricity, sooty buildup on wallpaper was no longer an issue in many households. So the sales went down.

A reinvention was needed... instead of inventing a new cleaning product, they discovered the wallpaper cleaner could also be used for modelling projects. Play-Doh was born. Instead of selling it as a cleaning product, it became a much-loved children’s toy. Play-Doh has sold more than 3 billion cans since its debut as a child’s toy in 1956, a lot more than it sold as a cleaning product.

"The future doesn't just happen, it's created by our actions"

Which actions will take in order to face the many challenges of the future? What lessons did you learn after the Covid-19 crisis? What if the energy prices stay that high, will your business be able to survive?

The question "What if..." is so simple but finding an answer can be the difference between surviving and thriving.

We can't predict the future but we can minimize the impact of potential challenges on our business. As a business leader, it's our responsibility to prepare the organization for the future.

Learning more about complex topics and delicate issues in family businesses.

As a Systemic consultant I get in touch with complex dynamics in family owned business where an organization systems comes together with a lot of family systems.

A constellation is a great way to explore the hidden dynamics in organizations and provide more insights to make the right decisions, needed to grow the business and to lead it towards the future.
